What to buy a 2 year old??

My husbands little cousin is turning two this weekend.  I cannot believe how time flies!!  I asked his mom what he liked/needed and she said he likes "Backyardigans"? airplanes and trucks.  I am out of the little kid toy loop.  What's a nice toy or game for them at this age that will not be thrown into the junk pile in a month??

My nephew loves airplanes and trucks too..... and he had many of them.  So I bought him a SHIP !  (I figured if he loved things that moved he'd get into a boat.... )

HE LOVED IT! 

However -- he is older than 2.  The ages on this say 3+  so maybe it's not appropriate yet?

This is a little out of the box thinking, but the best thing one of my sons got at that age was a set of sheets in his favorite TV character.  It was something I would have never thought of and really appreciated the gift.  It still gets lots of use.  Just an idea! 

My son turned 2 on the 1st and his FAVORITE toy were the monster trucks my brother got him (small ones ) and the Thomas the Tank Engine set we got him.  He also got the Disney Cars shake and go cars and like them but he plays with the trains and the trucks the most.

they have rollar skates that go over shoes... i just got my girlfriends kid some of them ( she just turned 2) and loves them.... i got her a helmet as well

O good idea... all these ideas are good!!

We love Wedgits - and everyone we've gotten them for has loved them. Dr kit is popular, play-doh, and any kind of play tool that looks real - Black and Decker has some great play tools. We have been to a million b-day parties and these are some I still see a few years later being used.
