Genetic mutation - MTHFR
I'm glad my OB decided to go ahead and do all the blood work and tests after my m/c. It was only my first, but she wanted to check everything since I'll be 37 next month. Turns out I'm positive for the genetic mutation MTHFR. For those that haven't heard of it ****rtainly hadn't), its a mutation that interferes with folic acid. So on top of my RNY limiting my folic acid absorption, my body doesn't already doesn't like absorbing it. The way the nurse described it, the mutation also makes your body try to fight off the pregnancy.
So her treatment for this is to take 4mg of folic acid starting now, 1 baby aspirin a day starting now, a Lovenox shot weekly once I get a positive pg test through wk 38 and then switch to Heparin for the last two weeks of the pg till 1 week after.
I will be seeing my RNY surgeon on Monday and will be asking him about the aspirin, Lovenox and Heparin to make sure he's ok with all of that. Have any of you heard of that mutation, or had experience with it?
On a positive note, my HCG levels are going down. We'll check them weekly now until they get to 0, and then I should start back to a normal cycle after that.

Let me know if you have any questions. There are groups on line for support with blood clotting issues like these. Cant remember the exact sites but can find them if you are interested. You might want to look into seeing a hematologist too.

My dr has me on 5,000 mg of folic acid per day, plus two baby aspirin per day...and when/if I get another positive pg test...then I'll do daily Lovenox injections also.
Talking to my dr, as well as a specialist in the U.S....they said that the fact that I have never had a blood clot, that they are hesitant to say for sure that that's what's causing my m/cs, but they're having me do the folic acid, baby aspirin and Lovenox just in case. Like most women out there..if they told me that standing on my head while doing the injections would help...I'd find a way to balance on my head and do injections at the same time.
Hopefully if this was what caused your mc, the drug regimine will help and you'll get another positive pg again soon with a super sticky bean.
