Loud Noises

My little Cooper was such a laid back baby.  He'd sleep through barking dogs, yelling adults, screaming kids.... TV, Music, etc.

That all changed this weekend!  For some reason we were at an outdoor show at the Renissance Faire and the audience was prompted to all cheer loudly.  Cooper was drinking a bottle and when the clapping started he started screaming !!!!

I figured he just didn't like his milk-snack being interrupted.  Well for the last few days any loud noise has scared him....the dog barks and he jumps and starts to cry or my husband calls for me and Cooper starts screaming.

Why all of a sudden !?!?!  He's also been fussy....could he be getting sick?  have a headache?

He turns 12 weeks old tonight at 5:51pm central time.   I just want my happy little boy back....

Any advice you have is appreciated!

Thank you!

Cindy

That is about the age Libby started being interrupted by noises as well.  She slept thru everything!  The vacuum, Kiko barking, people talking, kids screaming, etc.  Now, no way.  It sucks.

I found this online:

Babies may become startled easily by a noise or a touch. This does not mean your baby is nervous or does not want to be touched. A startled reaction is due to their immature nervous system and will disappear as they develop.

I also read that a baby is learning what noises are normal and what noises aren't. It takes them a while to realize that some noises are no big deal and they don't need to be scared.

I have ran into a lot of information that says this is very normal!

p.s. He is sooo cute!

Ditto to what Malena said.   Matthew was the same way....nothing bothered him then all of a sudden around 3 months or so the phone ringing...the dog barking and he jumps.  Even now at 6 months old he still does it sometimes.

My friend has a baby about the same age as Cooper and she also realized the same thing. So much so she took her baby to the pediatrician. He said everything was ok. Baby's have startle reflex, some more sensitive then others...hands, feet...their own that is, can spook them. So throw in a loud noise and even more so. It can come and go as I noticed with Emad and eventually they grow out of it. Sucks for us because the baby who could nap through anything becomes super sensitive to any noise....but hey...excuse not to do housework? LOL
Cute pic...as always~

Rowan is 8 weeks and started doing this the last week or so as well. In fact, all you had to do was sneeze, clear your throat, cough loudly....and he would scream. Thankfully, it seems to be getting better, he just makes the "about to cry" face ad then settles down! Cooper will probably get used to the sounds soon.
