So i've been diagnosed with having this bacteria. I know I was told that I would be given antibiotics while i'm in labor. I am just still so nervous about it passing to the baby. The doctor last week made it sound like it wasn;t to big of a deal...anyone else experience this??? Oh... and I also am a little freaked out about the way my baby sometimes has these rythmic motions. I know about hiccups, but this is a steady movement that can last for a few minutes...just nervous...thanks

I'm a NICU nurse. The vast majority of the time, when a mom is treated with antibiotics for GBS prior to delivery, baby is just fine. The problems happen when it is undiagnosed, or inadequately treated. They may do some bloodwork to check baby for signs of infection after delivery, but, like I said, most times there is no problem at all.

I had it with all 3 of my children and antibiotics took care of it and they are now 4, 7 and 9. As for movement maybe you have a dancer. I would not worry. I know it is easier said than done

Hi Shannon! WOW you are 39 weeks!! So you could be having that baby girl any time now! I am so excited for you!!
as for the strep B I also heard like the other ladies that once treated baby will be fine!

I felt all kinds of crazy movements at the end and I think it is because the baby is getting so much bigger we just feel alot more and different from earlier on!!

I can't wait to hear that you are going to have that baby!!

Hi Beth...

I can't believe I'm 39 weeks either. I feel like she's never gonna come!! I go this Friday and will be checked for the first time...I hate that, but I'm so curious if anything is happening or not. As for an angel, I don't have one. Not sure why I never asked anyone. I guess I'll just post on my own when I have her. I'm so ready to meet this lil one, but I swear I feel like I'm nowhere near giving birth, lol!! Hope your feeling good and I'll talk to you soon!!

Hugs,
Shannon

I just wanted to add something about the rhythmic movements. I had some recently and really freaked out. I swear it felt like the baby was having a seizure the pattern was so consistent. I talked to the doctor about it and she said it was uterine spasms. Kind of like a type of braxton hick. Not the baby at all. She said the uterus does things like that to prepare for labor and it really isn't serious. Treat them as a bh and drink lots of water and rest on your left side.

I am not sure if this is what you are experiencing, but I know it freaked me out and it was good to have the explanation. For me it was like 30 seconds of rhythm, then stop 30 and then on 30 for like 4-6 minutes.

Maybe something to ask your doctor about? Shari

Hi Shari....

That is exactly what I am experiencing with my baby...steady rythmic movements. I hope it is just spasms...it really freaked me out. I will definitely bring it up when I see my OB this Friday...Thank you for making me feel better!!

Hugs,
Shannon
