I am 5mos post op RNY ~ after three years TTC, currently 6weeks preg (unintenionally)- u/s showed slight heartbeat- sack-fetal pole.

I am unsure/scared about carbs/ketosis, vitamins, folic, iron, b12 you name it I'm concerned about it and I don't go to the doctor until the 24th but welcomes any and all information.

I am currently taking bariatric advantage vitamins, fish oil and progesterone.  I feel nauseaus but haven't gotten sick.  I noticed I've cut back tremendously on my food consumption.

Any sage advise and prayers are welcomed!

Congratulations!! I was on progesterone supplements until last week, and, to me, they made the nausea worse. I was glad though, that meant that it was doing the job!

Add in an extra folic acid supplement until you can get your prenatals, and make sure you eat some healthy carbs each day to try and avoid ketosis. Things like fruit, whole grain bread/crackers, potato, milk/dairy, etc... For a while, the only thing that I could eat was toast and jelly! Heck, if you can tolerate it, a glass of icy-cold orange juice is okay every now and then too. I may go fix myself one right now...

Congratulations on your unexpected blessing.

It seems you're on the right track on what needs addressed - your vitamins and staying out of ketosis.  Make sure the carbs you reintroduce back to your diet are 'good carbs' as much as possible - just because it's better for you - and enjoy your pregnancy.

I hope the remainder of your pregnancy is a happy and healthy time for you.

I got pregnant about as early out as you did.  The other posters gave good advice.  I stayed out of ketosis and was able to gain 50 lbs and had a 10.5 lb little moose!  LOL.  I lost 42 of those pounds within 2 weeks of having him.

Just eat some crackers, nuts, cheese, up the protein and carbs a bit, keep up on your vitamins, add a folic if you aren't switching your vits, and definitely keep up your liquids.

Good luck and congrats!  It will be ok if you stay on top of your labs and suppliments!

The other girl**** the key points. It will be important for you to do regular labs on your levels as well. Baby will take what it needs, but you don't want to suffer. I am over 3 years out, but due to regular labs caught my iron, b12 and vitamin d before they slipped too low. You are gonna be fine, just takes a little more attention to detail post op. Good luck and keep us posted. Congrats. Shari
