Questions w/out Judgement?

I had surgery in Feb.  I am down 110+ lbs and staying pretty stable.  I have been to see my surgeon and nutritionist who say my muscle tone and weight loss are great and on track! My surgeon has given me the go ahead to see my OBGYN and start on the path to having a baby.  Yes at 7 months post op, he recomended I wait until im a year, but he said there will be no hurt to me or the fetus. (all my vitamin levels are good and im actually being backed off the iron)

So I was wondering....how all this works, im on CD 9 I was told to use OPK on CD 13-18. then I have to go see my OBGYN for blood work on CD 21-23.  They dont know if Im ovulating...I should be able to tell by the OPK's right?

If im not ovulating what is the next step?  I know they will give me something to make me ovulate...is this going to be in pill form?  They know I have issues with taking pills, I dont absorbe well.  So is there anyone out there that has has other means of fertility drugs besides the pill forms?

its only 5 months.... it will do you both alot of good if you wait that 5 months.... thats why drs recommend it... it has alot to do with ketosis.... malaborbtion... getting enough calories.. not to just weight loss... sometimes the opks are hard to read.... yes... a pill they will give you.... if your not sure if you are ovulating.... maybe you should pee on those things more then 5 days.... you might miss it in either direction... agian... i still think you should wait... i waited 3 years for my first and still had problems with gaining weight.... keeping my blood sugar up... and this one is 4 years... agian.. weight loss... blood sugar keeps going down... even if i eat...

I suggest waiting the year. I am a year out now and Im 5 months pregnant. Just wait... Enjoy your time and let it take its course. I am ok with my pregnancy but i wish i would have waited.

if its not a good idea, im not pressuring my drs.  im not in the office throwing a hissy fit or anything, should i get second opinions?  i mean obviously i am doing a lot to be able to have children, but at the same time i dont want to risk their health.  if waiting is better for my future babies, then im fine with that, but my drs are the ones telling me im stable and everything is a ok.

they have tested my blood and vitamin levels, and all that is good.

if your baby healthy?  why do you wish you would have waited?  i dont want to be an "older" mom.  I realize im only 27 but I feel I am getting to old to have kids currently...(i realize thats a bit off...and i dont mean to offend anyone who is older in age having children) but I want to have my children (yes more than one) before I am 32ish.  So not a lot of time there....

but again I want it to be a healthy pregnancy and if starting to early is going to put my child in danger, than it is def worth waiting on.

should i get second opinion??

Sorry so long to respond, but my main reason for waiting longer would be because I want to enjoy and realize what my new body is like. Your only 27. Im 31 will be 32 in April. and 31 is by no means old!!!! Get a second opinion. Give your body time to adjust.

Enjoy your time with your new body.

my two cents are to not actively try but not actively prevent. I wouldn't run out to get OPK's... just let things happen.

How close are you to goal??

And jsut because your weight has stabilized and your vitamin levels look good doesn't mean everything has stabilized in your body. Your homones could  still be going whacky and things are leveling out. You are SO close to being that year out - I would wait. MY Dr reccomended 2 years out and I started TTC at 2 years out. A baby is going to leech out your vitamin stores and put a big strain on your body. I would say that it is best to get everyting to level out as best you can post op then get pregnant.

It doesn't mean your Dr is wrong, it just means that there are different ways to look at it. ESPECIALLY if you aren't sure if you are ovulating. Chances are if your body is where it wants to be and everything has truly leveld out that you will ovulate on your own.

I have PCOS and pre-op it would be nothing to go 3 months without a period (I was 327 pounds and 27 years old) WHen I hit about 210 pounds my periods got to be like clockwork! Without the aid of birth control pills. It seems that the PCOS is hardly there. Pre-op I was told I would NEVER conceive - something hard for a woman in her early 20's to hear when all she ever wanted was kids! WEll at my 2 year follow in January up my surgeon and my OB told me that everything looked good! WE started TTC in february, got pregnant in April, had a miscarriage at 11 weeks (blighted ovum - just a sack no baby and sack stopped growing at 8 weeks). We are now back to TTC and hoping to be pregnant again quickly.

Wishing you all the best!

You said no judgements.  I hope you don't mind my input.  My doctors insist on all female WLS patients using 2 forms of birth control for the first 18 months after surgery.  They told us that if we were to get pregnant too soon, it could be catastrophic.  Your vitamin levels are good now, but doesn't the baby get nutrients first and then mom?  If so, you probably won't have enough for both yet because of the amount of food you can eat.  Why rush, why take the chance?  It just doesn't seem worth it to me.  I'd hate to take the chance and have to deal with my health or health problems with the baby.

Again, just some input to consider.  Best of luck to you and congratulations!  I have surgery in one week.
