Who needs the Disney Earthquake rides?!

Seems like I'm getting all the Indonesian experiences in during my last few months here!  Terrorist attacks in July...now earthquakes?!  Didn't scare me (yeah...I'm weird)...but it sure made me nauseated!  Who knew an earthquake could make you motion sick?

No one I know was injured and the house/office wasn't damaged.  My son was on the school bus and didn't feel a thing.

I was wondering if you were in the area where this was! Thank God you are all OK

It's amazing to me that the epicenter was 242 kilometers (about 130 miles?) away and 37 kilometers (20 miles) under the ocean (not even on land) and we still felt it so strongly here.  There are hundreds of minor earthquakes each month in this area...but this the first one I've felt here.  I've even had my HQ calling to tell us we had an earthquake and checking if we're OK...and we didn't even know we'd had one.

I think the people who suffered the most damage and/or were killed by collapsing buildings were the poorer people.  Their houses - if you can call them that - are not built to any safety standards at all.

Thanks.  Now that I can check an earthquake off my list of things I'd never really experienced (other than a very minor one in Oregon years ago)..hopefully there won't be any repeats of THAT experience.

My DH is in Egypt for Ramadan...he'll be back in 2 1/2 weeks...and it sure freaked him out.  I sent him an email immediately afterwards telling him we were fine...and he called me on my cell (I was stuck in traffic) questioning a hundred different ways to make sure I was OK and that our son was OK...and told me to call him the minute I walked in the door so he could confirm again that we were OK.  Of course yesterday was also the day that it took 2+ hours to get home...one hour to go a mile and a half, one hour to go about 5-6 miles, so he was panicking again when it took forever to call him.

Obviously, all things considered...it could have been worse.  Thank God it was nothing like the one that caused the tsunami 4 1/2 years ago (I was not here for that one) that killled 250,000 Indonesians, or the one in Yogjakarta about 3 years ago (right before I came here) that killed umpteen thousands more.

You just have to be thankful that your, your son, your home, and work are all ok and send prayers to those who lost loved ones and their homes!

I am sure hubby was freaking out. At least he was able to still get through. A lot of times when something like this happens, the lines are all jammed and people freak out even more because they can't reach their loved ones.

Glad you are safe and sound!!!
