My regular vits vs Prenatals!

I am totally confused!!!  When i look at the prenatal I was given, it has WAY less vitamins than what I have been taking.  My nutritionist says I could take the prenatal or just take my regular vits.  Am I supposed to take the prenatal in addition to my regular vits or what?  SOOO Confused!

I was switched from 2 multi vitamins a day to 2 prenatals a day - then I supplement that with folic acid, calcium and B12.

I would put a call into your surgeon and ask them what they think.

There is some issues with taking too much vitamin A, so be careful double dosing like that. The best way to know what to take is really to have your vitamin and blood levels drawn frequently and adjust your doses before you get too low on something. I take a prenatal (only one per the dose on the bottle, some say take 2 a day) and have added b-12, vitamin d and iron during this pg. Your levels can change fast when pg, so I get my labs drawn monthly. Hope this helps.

the main difference is your body needs more folic acid and more iron (to help with the red blood cell production) prenatal vit. should be taken because they have everything your body needs plus they do wonders for your hair and nails, increase your fiber and water intake though becasue of the excess iron your body needs may cause constipation (which can lead to hemroids because of the straining when you are constipated) fiber and adequate fluid intake will help alleviate this. good luck
