TTC after PCOS and at age 38

I'll be 18 months out in October and my weight has pretty much stabilizied, with only a new pound lost every couple months now. I had PCOS and was infertile for almost 20 years. Finally, I gave up on ever having children. Now that I'm almost 18 months out and have lost 160 pounds, I'm hoping to TTC in October since I have my doctors' approval and my boyfriend is finally almost on board (he never thought he wanted children but he's changing his mind). My periods returned right after surgery, but they aren't always exactly 28 days when I'm off the pill...close enough though. I'll be 38 yrs old in November too, so I don't exactly have age on my side.

Has anyone with PCOS found it easier or more difficult to become pregnant when TTC after surgery? Multiples run on both sides of my family, so I'm concerned about upping those odds if I have to take Clomid.

I was dianosised way before WLS with PCOS.  I had WLS lost a bunch of weight.  Was allowed to try 12 months out - so March would have been 12 months.  Late March I found out we were expecting (1 month).  I almost died...but then I had m/c and it took time for my body and mind to rebalance, it took 4/5 months of trying that time.  I say it could happen on it's own..without clomid.  My sister got pregnant on her own in her 40's after trying for many years for 1 more (her youngest is 16 and her baby is 6 months now)- she dropped some weight- and puff- pregnant.  Good luck.

Hi I was in your boat, PCOS then WLS then after WLS regular periods! I got pregnant our first try, we did have a miscarriage BUT we got pregnant again and I just gave birth 2 and half weeks ago!
I was 37 when I started TTC and I am 39 now! I found the WLS did most definitely help me to get pregnant! I also have multiples and multiples in my family as far as Clomid goes from what I learned over the years i you are going to have multiples you will have them with or without the clomid!

I say get cracking and enjoy the TTC ride! I wish you all the best!!

I have PCOS and had tried for almost 10 years to get pregnant.  After WLS I was on birth control and I guess around Xmas I wasn't as adamant about the controception because I got pregnant at 17 months post op.

I will be 25 this year and did the bloodwork that showed I have PCOS when I was about 19. Was with Hubby since I was youngER and never prevented pregnancy and never happened for us (which I realize now is a good thing). So I found out I had PCOS way before WLS also.  I have done 4 rounds of Clomid, currently on 5th waiting to Ovulate. BUT, seems like there are TONS of women who have had alot of success becoming pregnant with the help of fertility drugs and treatments. My periods are still out of whack, not coming at all unless I'm taking Provera or the Clomid is making me Ovulate.  Since your periods are back on track, sounds like your chances are even greater!!!  GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was also infertile proir to wls. I still have pcos, but metformin was my miracle drug. For your age they would say try for 6 months and then see an RE. Ovulation prediction tests would be very handy...they tell you a couple of days before your fertile time so that you aren't guessing since your cycles fluctuate. Lots of us here have gotten pg after surgery with pcos. There is hope. And this site is cool for support. I post a ttc thread on fridays for those trying...feel free to join in. Good luck. Shari

I am 37 and had PCOS. I have also had a fallopian tube removed. Hubby MIGHT have fertility issues too. I was 16 months out and got preggers on our first try. Unfortunantly, I also M/C'ed with that pregnancy. I have had one scare since then since I was supposed to wait 2 cycles.  I get to start trying again in the near future. No clue if I had issues before since we never TTC. We wanted kids but also wanted in our own house. That's not happening so we are trying anyway.

Good luck with TTC.
