baby blues and PPD

Ok soooo for those that have had these how long do they last? Baby blues how long? Then when would you worry that it could be PPD? My hubby says to chill a few days because with all I have been through over the last two weeks it could be a combo of stress too, OH and I found out too during surgery that this is more than likely my very last baby as my uterus was super thin and he doesn' t feel it is safe for me to carry a baby again! So that along with being sick and in the hopsital I am overwhelmed so now I am just completely unsure on what or how to feel these days? I still just have this lost feeling, I am not crying, I am sleeping pretty good ( with a two week old), and I am eating okay!
So for those that have been there your thoughts and words of wisdom are appreciated!
Thanks as always!
Beth

I think mine went on for about 4 weeks or so.  Even then until around 10 weeks I would occasionally tear up for no reason.  But, then it just seemed to disappear overnight.  I hope you start feeling better soon.  It does get a lot better.

I knew it was more than baby blues...when I didn't want much to do with my baby. I would cry or get mad at anything. And wanted to stay in bed all the time. It's normal to feel sad easy or over whelmed....but totally shutting down and not wanting to hold your baby...is not.

I thought I had PPD but I think it was just the baby blues.  I cried non-stop for 2.5 weeks.  I finally just told myself to get over it and somehow I did.  Don't ask me how.  I kinda kicked my own ass.  I was weepy, resentful of Kellen and just felt out of control.  I said "that's it!!  I wanted this baby!  If things are going to look up I need to get a hold of myself and make my own rules and routine!!"  It worked.  I stopped being so weepy and I let others help me...I'm bad at letting anyone do anything for me and I don't ask for help.  Now, with the twins, I'm terrified that I may just get PPD but I'm taking every offer of help that's already starting to trickle in.
Good luck.  Hopefully it won't last long.  My mom said she had PPD with my sister but never talked to anyone about it.  33 years later they still don't get along and it's been that way since birth.  I didn't want to become that person.

Hi Beth,

Congratulations on your new arrival. I think you are handling things great. I had a bout of PPD. I cried all the time...bouts of hysterical crying, lots of feelings of unworthiness and that I was a bad mom. A lot of it was brought on by the fact I ended up with a csection after 19 hours of labor and I couldn't breastfeed like I wanted to. At my 6 week post-partum check up my doc prescribed zoloft and it did a world of good. I felt like I was walking through a fog and then when the meds kicked in, everything cleared. When Nick was around 8 months, I weaned myself off, no problems. I would definitely say if you aren't feeling better within the next couple of  weeks, you should talk to your doctor for sure.

I hope you start feeling better soon!

My BB lasted at least a month.

I don't have any advice on when BB turn to PPD, but I say trust your instinct.  If you feel worse don't be ashamed to talk to your doctor about it!

(mine made me answer a questionairre each time about my emotions)

Take Care!

uh, given all that you've been through, I think you're entitled to a complete meltdown sweetie!  But seriously, if you are questioning it, I would run it by your OB/GYN.  They know the right questions to ask and they certainly see BB's and PPD enough to be able to distinguish.  I've only had PPD and it was uncontrollable bouts of crying and/or anger that lasted almost 4 months with my first born (didn't get the help I needed), 2 months with my daughter (started meds at 1 month) and a month with Everett (started meds right away, but had to tweak dosage/combo).  My OB told me that the average time for hormones to level out is about 8-12 weeks.

Hugs,

Beth, you have been through alot lately. So that may well be what is going on. But I would also suggest mentioning it your your OB. That way, if it does continue, you have some basis and dates to go from.

Hang in there and remember to talk to your OB about all of this. I had a terrible bout of this after Jantzen. And I am still struggling at times but with the help of my docs, I would probably be in the nut house today.

Remember.........you can't do it all or handle it all! So ask for help if you need it!

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I think you have to define the difference between baby blues and PPD for yourself. Is what you're feeling keeping you from bonding with the baby? Are you feeling resentful toward the baby?
I was miserable for two weeks thinking I had baby blues and it would pass. I was sobbing all day every day and wishing babies came with a return policy. I started zoloft and felt like a normal person again in 48 hours!
