Gender Parties - Your Thoughts?

I was at work one day this week eating lunch with another teacher and she told me she was going to a "gender party" this weekend.  I had no idea what she was talking about.  She explained to me that her daughter-in-law is pregnant and the gender party is a type of baby shower.  Her DIL went for a gender ultrasound last week and had the tech write down on a slip of paper the baby's gender and put it in a sealed envelope.  She then gave the envelope to a trusted friend.  The friend called the baker of the baby shower cake and told them to make the cake batter either pink/blue (guess I'll find out next week what it was).  Anyway, nobody knows the gender of the baby except for the friend (not even the parents) and others will not find out until the cake is cut in to at the shower.

So what are your thoughts?  Have any of you done this before?  I kind of thought it was a cute idea, but when I told my husband he said "some things are better left for private".  Guess he thinks finding out the gender should just be between the two of us.  I don't know though.  I think it is a very creative and fun idea.

We're not pregnant right now (had a MC back in July) but we are trying (in fact, we're in the 2ww).  I may still try to change his mind on this one if we're blessed with a second little bundle of joy!  If we were lucky this cycle then we'll be able to find out the gender right before Christmas.  A great time for a party!

I think it's nice to include everyone in finding out the sex of the baby :) I think I'd like for my husband and I to find out first and then do a gender party to announce the sex of the baby to family and friends.

Thats a good idea.  I see you're almost 19 weeks, so you should be able to find out the sex in a few days, right?  Are you going to do it or wait for a "surprise" on delivery day?  :)

Oh I can't wait to find out! :) I have an appointment on Tuesday but I'm torn on what to do. My husband is in CO so he can't be at the appointment with me and he'll be deployed right after the baby is born so I want to make sure he feels as included as possible so I've been trying to think of a way for us to find out the sex at the same time. The only thing I can think of is to ask the doctor to make 2 envelopes with the sex sono and then i'll ship him one and i'll keep mine so we can open them together over webcam. It's kind of complicated but I really would love to see the reaction on his face when he finds out. I could also just find out and send him an envelope myself and have him open it on cam for me but it might be kind of selfish of me to find out first ..so I don't know what to do.. i'll probably be selfish! :D ..lol ..

I saw this one on the today show.  It was the oldest child from the duggar family.   Not only did they announce it to their family they also announced it to the world.
If you do that make sure you look away from the screen during that part ot the ultrasound.  Sometimes it's pretty obvious to the untrained eye what the sex of the baby is.
I hope to see a BFP post from you soon!
