Question about temping.

I know you're supposed to temp as soon as you wake up and before you get out bed, right? Here's the BIG question - I sleep with an electric blanket on low every night, is this going to make a difference with my temps?

TIA,
Cathie

Probably, but if you use it every night, your average should still spike I believe.

As long as its the same sleeping arrangements every night, your body should adjust to it. You should still how a spike. Do you have a link to your chart?

I don't have a chart - I've never temped before. This is new to me! Any advice is soooo appreciated.

ETA: I just signed up on Babymed.com to start charting ..

I agree. I don't think it will matter with the electric blanket. It's not important what your temp is, but looking at the pattern over time. You should still have a temp spike that will let you know when you've ovulated.

Is it really that obvious of a spike? My cycle days range from 29, 33, 35 and I all but need a thump in the forehead to tell me i'm O'ing. I'm hoping temping will be the obvious thump!

The problem is that temping will not tell you when you are going to ovulate or are currently ovulating.  It tells you AFTER you have ovulated.  You need to BD before the temp spike.  And yes, if you ovulate, the temp spike is very obvious.  Temping is good, because it will help you notice patterns and will confirm if you truly do O.  Some people don't.

To time your BD, other than using OPKs, the best thing to do is check your cervical mucuous.  It should be egg white or watery during the fertile period before O'ing.  After you ovulate, it will dry up or become sticky/creamy.

Good luck.

I agree with Ann. For me, cervical mucus is always a big clue. Here's my chart. The red line indicates when I O'd. You can clearly see the temp spike compared to before O.
