Hey Guys,

Had my RNY 02/12/08. Last day of first period was 7/30/09. Took 4 EPT tests two days ago and to my amazement, my urine actually gave a postive result!   LOL. I have been diagnosed with PCOS since age 14 never thought this would happen to me. I am in total shock at this point. I have been in Bridezilla mode for the past few months for my up and coming nuptials (12-31-09)  Groom to be is excited (squealed like he just won the lottery or a pig going t the roast) I scheduled my first appt with gynie for 09-04 (Next Friday) I dont know what to expect. Can someone tell me what happens at the first appointment. I ran to CVS and bought some pre-natal vitamins that include folic acid ( I know this is important) I am a nervous wreck, scared to death and excited all at once. This is my first pregnancy. We made the choice not to tell family until after the first trimester. I dont know how thats gonna look when our wedding date is around that time.. I have a fear people will start thinking this is the reason for us getting married. He tells me to Hell with people, maybe I should take on the same way of thinking. I just need a bit of encouragement.

Thanks,
Jasmin  C

Congratulations!! As a fellow PCOS'r... I totally get your excitement! I wish you a happy and healthy nine months! As for the first appointment. Sometimes they will do a blood test. Sometimes they will do an internal ultrasound to check for an egg sac implanted well. In some instances they will be able to see a heart beat at 6 weeks, but don't freak if they don't because it will still be early for that. As a wls patient they should monitor your vitamin levels very closely. I have mine checked monthly and have had to add some iron, b-12 and vitamin d to my daily regimin. Baby will take what it needs from you, but you don't want to end up deficient. Most do well with post op pregnancies...so try not to worry. Hopefully you won't get morning sickness. One important thing that is important is that after surgery we are told to limit our carbs...but while pregnant it is really important to add back in good carbs as ketosis is bad for baby. And if they ask you to add a few calories a good way to do it is with a couple of glasses of milk a day if you can tolerate it.

As for the wedding and stuff...well, they should be able to add up the fact that you were planning the wedding first...but I am with boyfriend on this....whatever! They can think what they want. Obviously you guys are in love and happy about this, so enjoy the moment. I don't think I could wait that long to tell personally, I was too excited. lol

Good luck and keep us posted okay. Shari

Congratulations, Jasmine!!!

I got married on Aug. 14th and found out I was pregnant on the 21st. We'd been actively trying and didn't think that I'd get pregnant as quickly as I did. I'm 37.

It's been a long time since my first OB appt, but I believe they do blood work and get a general history. I've heard that some OB's will do an ultrasound as well, but not sure under what cir****tances.

Hey Jasmin,

Congratulations!!!  I got my total shock about 8 week ago and the time is flying.  My first appt took 2 hours and they took a full history, lots of bloodwork, and a pap.  They also gave me a ton of information.  You may want to write down any questions that you may have so that you don't forget by next Friday.  I agree with your fiance...to Hell with people.  People will always have something to say regardless and it seems like your wedding plans must have been in the works for a while.  Hopefully, your 1st trimester won't be too bad especially with all that you have going on.  I have just been really fatigued with an occassional episode of nausea.  I definitely had to cut down on all of the running around of was doing.  I just don't have the energy.

Anyways...Just focus on your new blessing and staying healthy. Congratulations again!

Jasmin,
Congrats!   As for what to expect at your first appointment....different dr.s do different things.   I'm sure they will want a urine sample or do a blood test to confirm the pregnancy.  You may have a pap smear and possibly even an ultasound.  Just depends on how far along you are and your Dr's routine.   Don't worry about what people think about the wedding.  Anyone close to you knows that you've been planning the wedding for a while (and if they can do math they can figure out you weren't pregnant yet lol).
I hope you have a healthy and happy 9 months!
Amy
