? for mom's of twins, triplets,etc.
so my ob is classing my pregnancy as high risk, due to me being pregnant with identical twin boys, however i told him i still want him to be my ob/gyn and deliver my babies and treat me throughout, so he had me going to another hospital that he sends his patients, so i have been going back and forth to him and them every 2 weeks, however for the past month (2 visits) the other place has been telling me my smaller baby "michael" his stomach is smaller than his brother"kevin" and also his femur looks short!!! so this time i was pulled into the office to consult with the doctor there, she had me so nervous i couldnt stop crying, she was telling her pa while i was in the office that i need to be admitted right away, the babies are 3oz different for the past month, the smaller baby may have down syndrome, i may have to terminate him to save the other......................needless to say i was overwhelmed and appauled i said i would not terminate my child, he is growing at every visit , his heart rate is good,he is very active, they are twins they are meant to be together................... they said we will call your doctor and she what he suggests, so i waited, cried and ate lunch, my doc said go to get a steriod shot just in case i have to deliver early i said ok, i went to the nearest hospital and got my 1st shot, 2nd shot to follow in 24 hours. i quickly went to my dr office to speak 1 on 1 with him, he suggested i get a 3rd opinion so he refered me to the hospital that i will deliver at where he works, so again i got the anatomical assesment ,a consultaion with a mfm(maternal fetal medicine doctor) and my 2nd steriod shot to mature there lungs..............this dr told me yes my smaller babies stomach is smaller but there is not much room in there for two and my bigger baby is "stealing all the food and nutrients, however it is NOT tts, there fluid level is fine. as for the femur,he said legs look fine it could be one baby will be tall the other will be short (im 5'3 and my hubby is 5'11)
he doesnt think this baby has downs either, he says for identical twins its uncommon for 1 to have it and not the other, he checked the smaller babies nasal profile, and checked the nt and fluid, all looks good, however he himself want to see me every 2 weeks for growth check
so now i have to go to 3 places to be checked, i called my ob and asked if i can go to the other place where the dr overreacted and scared me , he said yes so now just him and the mfm doctor
i have had a rough and emotional past couple of day, also 2 out of 3 drs say i should go on bedrest to increase blood flow for smaller twin
baby a-kevin weighs 1lb 8oz
babyy b-michael weighs 1lb 5oz
so i really dont know how far im gonna make it in thispregnancy buy i have short term girls right now im aiming for 28 weeks then 32 then 36
i wanna bake them as long as i can, and i am still working as a phcy tech 40 hrs a wee****ill i cant go no more

WOW!! Good luck to you! I thought it was odd when you mentioned identical boys and only one with downs...I would go with the 3rd opinion!
If you want to know much more about these things, I highly suggest reading the forums at whattoexpect.com. They have a multiples forum and many people have been thru all sorts of situations. You can post and might get an answer, but I just enjoy reading all the other stories of "what happened to me".
Good luck to you! Hope your little ones make it all the way to 36 weeks and that your little guy is just that, a little guy!

My sister is expecting twins (actually delivering them tomorrow by c/s) and they told her that one of the twins (not identical) was weighing in nearly a pound smaller than the other one. She has been on bedrest for around a month and a half now and the babies are within ounces of each other now...I can't believe they would scare you like that over 3 oz!!! Ultrasound weights are total guesstimates anyways right?
Sounds like the third opinion is the one I would stick with! Good luck with everything!!!

p.s. my sister will be 36w5d tomorrow so there is hope for you!!!

I was further along with my twins when they noticed a size difference. It was around 35 weeks, because I delivered them right at 37 weeks. They noticed one of the babies was not gaining as fast as the other baby, they also said the bigger baby was likely taking all the nutrients and the other baby wasn't getting enough. The size difference and my blood pressure getting higher was the reason I had them by c-section. They said the day before I delivered them that baby A was going to be around 4 lbs, but when he was born he was 5 lbs, 7 oz., and the other baby was 5 lbs, 9 oz. So there really wasn't that much size difference between them. They were both thankfully healthy when they were born.
Hope you get some answers and are able to bake your little ones longer!

Take a deep breath, everything will be fine :-)
Just wanted to let you know that I only had one baby and my doctors kept on eye on her because her stomach was small and she wasn't growing much at all. They classified with my IUGR and left it at that. I had quite a few ultrasounds and they kept a close eye on me. Libby was born at 39w1d and was 5lbs 15oz and perfect!!! Some people just have small babies and that is okay.
