Swine flu vaccine??
As far as I know, from what I have read, is that it is different and they have just started testing it in trials. I would imagine that it has to be different since it must be a different strain then it was 30 some years ago. What worries me is the stuff that they say they are adding to boost the immunity even more than a normal vaccine. I might be wrong, but that is how I have understood it.
Hi,
I am leaning towards getting the flu shots if I can find someone who has the preservative(mercury free version). I will vaccinate my children, pending the outcome of the trials. I believe that there are some trials also to be conducted on pregnant women in easily September, which will give and idea of immediate risk. We all get flu shots annually.
I am a Nurse/Teacher in a large high school, and will without a doubt be exposed to a great number of sick kids. I am hopping to get my regular flu shot at my OB visit in September. Then wait for the Swine flu vaccine to arrive in Late October.
The I believe I will get vaccinated for a couple of reasons; the increased risk of serious illness and death from the swine or regular flu while pregnant, my rearranged gut doesn't absorb things like a normal person-so if I was to end up with the flu that ended up with a pneumonia and needed antibiotics calculating the correct doses could be trial and error, the swine flu shot is built using the same base as the regular flu shot that is deemed safe.
It is a tough call.

Our doc has us all on the list to get any and all vaccines because Alex is asthmatic and goes to a highschool with about 2500 students. Then there's the fact that I have heart disease AND I'm pregnant. Niko is high risk because of his age.
I think we'll go with the regular flu shot, but I'm not sold on the H1N1 vaccine yet. Alex is the only one that is exposed to a lot of people. I think dave will probably get it because they give all that crap to the army in case there is a national crisis.
I'm afraid of it because there was a trial vaccine for some common illness when Alex was a baby. We were on medicaid and they kept telling me that Alex had to have it. Turns out they were testing it on poor kids....well, I wouldn't make the appointment or sign the paper. About three months later, they pulled the vac because babies were getting sick and dying. I just don't trust things that easily.
We all have our pneumonia vacs too. I think we'll be covered with that and the regular flu vaccine. Lots of Vitamins, handwashing and Lysol.
I always laughed at my mom when we were all in the house because we NEVER caught what was going around. Her rules---DIAL soap handwashing before and after everything
Cleaning the bathroom with bleach
Spraying all surfaces with lysol
And 1000 mg of vitamin C per day.
Never reuse towels or wash cloths without washing
then in HO****er w/ bleach(always had white towels)
Not bad for having 13 people in the same house....hehe
