Swine flu vaccine??

I was just wondering what you all thought of it.  Are you going to get it or have your older kids get it?  I was dead set against it until I talked with our pediatrician today at Zach's 2 month check up.  Now I am not so sure.  It scares me that they haven't done much testing on it and who knows what kind of long term effect will show up later on.
So, what is your opinion???

We will not be giving our kids the vaccine. They are rushing it  and only 2,500 people are in the trial. And like you said we don't what the effects will be later on.

That is what I have been worried about.  I agree with the rushing it and the lack of trials.

I am so glad you asked !!   I was thinking of posting the same question....

I heard this vaccine has preservatives in it and you cannot get it without.  I don't like that for my 2 month old.

BUT.... it scares the poop out of me with this media blitz about how many people will contract it and how it's kids (and pregnant women) who are most affected....

I'd like to hear others' thoughts!

I know, it is very scary with what they are predicting.  I don't think the infants can get the vaccine, only the older kids and the caregivers for infants.  But not sure about that.  I hope they are very wrong about how bad it might be.

Well I am willing to get the vaccine.... I hope they don't want to vaccinate Cooper because I don't think I'll allow it.

My husband is a kidney transplant recipiant so which vaccines he can get determine if they are live or dead.... because of his immune system.  But because of this it is important he not be exposed to  the virus.

I am refusing the vaccine if asked. I don't even get the regular flu shot...I got the regular one once when I was 14 and volunteering at a hospital and they were giving them free. I had to worst after affect from the shot for about a week then that "season" I had the worst cast of the flu I had ever had in my life. Since then I (knock on wood) have not gotten the flu once! I refuse to inject something into my body that mutates and I still could get another strain of later on anyways!

I have been thinking about this too, especially since they are saying that children and pregnant women are most vulnerable.  However, I just think that the vaccine has been rushed without any significant studies and I will just take my chances.  I am just going to take as many precautions as possible and pray on it.

At this point, I feel that there is more of a risk to get the vaccine than to not.

I don't get the regular flu shot either - I too had the worst flu ever the year I did get it AND got sick from the shot. I'll stick with lots of hand washing and lysol spraying at the office. OF course it is just me and hubby. Chris does get a flu shot - always has and this past year he got a horrible strain of it too - 2 days with a 104 fever... and another 2 stuck sick in bed.

I'm conflicted.

Jordan goes to a decent sized school, Kaida goes to 2 daycare places this fall, I'm pregnant and I go to the university of cincinnati (which has had 2 confirmed cases of H1N1 and is in phase 3 of its pandemic thingy).

we will be getting the regular flu vax just based on how many people we will come into contact with daily.  Not sure yet about the swine flu one. ugh.
