What are the best vitamin combos for us during pregnancy?

I was curious what would be the best vitamin combos for us during pregnancy? Should I continue to do B12 shots, should I continue a multi-vitamin along with a prenatal, should I just do prenatal and iron supplement. I'm totally confused and want what's going to give this baby the best chance it can get.  So any ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks again

Hello Mia,

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Every doctor and situation is different so i am just going to tell you what mine did.  I did get pregnant 3 months post op from having the RNY surgery.

I was alrea0dy on centrum 1 time a day, calcium citrate 2 times a day and Vitamin B-12 (shot) monthly.
My surgeon immediately added 1 iron pill Vitron C, A prenatal over the counter and a vitamin D.  I took my vitmains religiously. He also had me add whole grains and carbs to my diet and I had a healthy but small baby girl on march 4 2008 just 2 days shy from making my 1 year surgiversary.

Edited to add: that my doc also added a vitamion B complex that I took once daily.

Take care and you will do great.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

I was 4 months post op but I was taking:

2 calcium a day
2 prenatals a day - Target brand were not horse pills so they went down easy!
Sublingual B12 (I'd probably benefit more from the shot)

That's really it.  My labs came back perfect and I had a 10.5 lb baby.  This time I'm adding a folic acid pill and an iron pill every other day since it's twins and labs have been perfect also.

Good luck!

Sandy,

Which Target brand do you take? The target brand I bought are still huge. I have lapband and need a smaller pill. The chewable I was taking went off the market and there was no other ones except for Duet Chewable which make me gag at the thought they tasted so horrible.

Even though the question wasnt directed at me. If you have a Rite Aid near you, get there generic brand. Its a small oblong purple pill, smaller than a multi vitamin.
