Thyroid issues after pregnancy?

I have been exhausted and just assumed it was my iron or B12, I just had blood work done and it turns out I am hyperthyroid.  I have to go see an endocrinologist and I will be going on medication.  Fun times!
I am still breast feeding, is anyone on thyroid medication and breast feeding?
Is/was anyone on thyroid medication while pregnant?
What treatment are you/have you done  (radioactive iodine, meds, surgery)?
Did anyone else go hyper/hypothyroid after pregnancy?

*yawn*, this hyperthyroid crap is almost as bad as my first trimester exhaustion!

Thanks!

I was hypothyroid due to large cysts - in 2002 I had 3/4 of my thyroid removed after 2 aspirations to drain the cysts were un-successful. After WLS I was able to go off of my synthroid - but if I were still on it it is perfectly safe (according to my OB) since it is replacing a hormone your body naturally produces. Infact if your thyroid levels are off it can be very difficult if not next to impossible to conceive - food for thought!

Hope that you are feeling better soon! The right amount of synthroid will make you feel like a million bucks!

Thanks!  Was it a long process to get your levels/meds figured out?  I want to try for another baby this time next year, I am assuming I should be all straightened out by then.
I hope I feel like a million buck shortly because I feel like crap now!

It took about 6 months to get it all worked out - that was 2 med changes - they are pretty good at guessing though! I am sure that you will be right on track for TTC next year. Good thing that it was caught now!!

I have no advice, am beginning to think this is what is wrong with me.  Am getting blood drawn.  Please keep us informed.  Hope you're feeling better soon!

There is a condition called Postpartum Thyroiditis that can occur after pregnancy.  It is usually temporary, but can really have some icky side affects.  http://www.mythyroid.com/postpartum.html
