I'm just wondering...been searching for about 3 years now and just read about the birth control pills not absorbing....hadn't thought about that. I would really hate to get pregnant right after having the gastric bypass....so I guess what my question is...What if you have the IUD...can you get pregnant on that....can your body absorbe the hormones that it puts off?? May be a dumb question but just wondering. Thanks

 Hi!

Out of curiousity, have you had the Realize band and are now going to be revised to a gastric bypass procedure.. or are you just going with the Realize band?  If you just have the Realise Band then there would be no malabsorption as there is no "bypass" to this procedure, as far as I have researched.  It is strictly a mechanism placed around your stomach to make it more restrictive.

I am sure Tabatha is right.  You would only have absorption problems if you had a mal-absorption surgery like RNY or the DS. With the band, you would still absorb everything so you shouldn't have any problems.  Good news for you!  :-)

Yep, if you are getting the band you wont have a absorbsion problem.  However, I love my IUD since I can't take anything with hormones that get into the bloodstream.

Oh my goodness...I just realized that....I'm having the RNY not the Lap Band...so sorry about that. I at one time was gonna have the band but decided to go with the gastric bypass...I'm so sorry!
