Should I be worried....

Hello ladies !  I hope that everyone is having a great weekend :)

So I have a question for the RYN ladies.  Since becoming pregnant I have noticed that I have more what I call "diabetic" moments.  After eating sometimes 1/2 hour sometimes like 2 hours .... I get shakey, sweaty, dizzy ...  And if I eat a little something it will go away.  I can now feel it coming on and can usually make it to get something before the shakeness takes over my legs.

Have any of you ladies experienced this?  And should I ask my doctor to do the diabetic testing early?

Thanks!
Gina

It happens to me once in a while. It started once i became pregnant. Never before. I bought a glucose monitor to see what was going on during those times and I basically figured out that my glucose level drops. I think it's called reactive hypoglycemia because your glucose levels drop as a result of a high carb meal or snack.

I try to make sure I incorporate protein in all my meals or snacks to avoid this and it has worked well. Good luck!

OH and i did have that diabetes test done already and it was all normal. I did the one where you test before breakfast and then after breakfast. Don't let them make you take the syrup!

I was told to eat every 2-3 hours to help with this and to keep a few pieces of candy in my purse for the times I may need it to feel better. He also suggested orange juice but I can do citrus. Bladder issues. Since I did this everything went back to normal. Good luck to you!!

Thanks ladies! It is so weird because it doesn't do it with all meals ... and this morning it did after I had a  1 1/2 egg beaters, 3-4 pieces of bite sized watermelon and a 1/3 of a low-cal muffin ... Oh well, I wish I could just pin point it :)  Thankfully it hasn't happened during work or driving...

Thanks Again :)

I'm not pregnant (yet) but I do have the reactive hypoglycemia thing going on since having RNY in March '08 ..

I have to eat, preferably a high protein snack, every couple of hours *at least up through mid afternoon* or I get the drops.

I am not sure how far along you are, but I did get gestational diabetes very early on this time...it does warrant asking your doctor about. It does sound like a drop...but I also am way more sensitive to sugars/carbs while pregnant as well and it could simply be mild dumping. Either way I would talk to your doc and try to eat snacks every couple of hours that are balanced with carb and protein to stabalize your sugars. Good luck. Shari

I had the exact same problem. It was a terrible feeling. It did go away in my last few months though
