Fevers/Themometers/Eating 9 - 12 mos

Hi Friends....

Sorry I have been touch and go this week....another BUSY work week....ugh....I love my job so it is not so bad but have not had time to get online much....sorry I have not been able to respond to everyone like I like to.

Anyway, I do have a few questions for y'all....

- What kind of themometers are you all using? Nathan has had like three fevers this week...maybe teething is truly coming....we are looking for one that is the quick ear one with good quality...we are willing to invest in a good one but wondered if you had any suggestions....Nathan definitely hates me taking his temp for more than a few seconds...so looking for a good quick ear one.
- What was/is your baby eating between 9 and 12 months. The pedi said we can start eating off of our plate but I am terribly nervous....what are you feeding your munchkin(s)? What did you start with? I have been trying to do the puffs and yogurt melts and he is playing but not interested in putting them in his mouth...lol....

Thanks in advance and hope you all are doing well....take care!!!

Ann

One thing to look for in an ear themometer is what kind of batteries it takes.  I have one that takes a watch battery!   I really need to get one that takes normal batteries.  It's not a good thing to have hot baby in the middle of the night and the stupid watch battery be dead.

We started Hannah on table foods at 9 months.   I think we started on soft things like mashed potatoes.  She is a picky eater.  I remember giving her TINY pieces of chicken.   She never got choked, but she only had 2 or 3 teeth so I know she couldn't have been able to chew it up good.

Hannah liked the puffs.  She loved the gerber graduates little crunchies in the zesty tomato flavor.

Good luck with table foods!

Ann!
How are ya?? Long time no talk! :) I'm not sure on thermometers but I can give some food advice. With Cam he loved grilled cheese, really cooked Mac and Cheese, scrambled eggs, pancakes, fish sticks(obviously everything cut small) Peanut butter (creamy) now if there is family history of peanut allergies I would wait! Also I would really steam veggies. Like carrots cut in triangles little pieces and super mushy, brocolli, green beans. Fruits, bananas, peaches, mangerine oranges, soft pears SO many things!

He ate a lot of what we ate as long as it was soft. And introduce foods slow...to watch for allergies! Hope this helps!

yeah that stuff is pretty gross.... jayson didnt like it either... however he LOVES real sketty!.... he ate it last night for dinner... it will take him a few tries to get the texture and the thickness... he will also give you signs when hes ready.... let him play with his food... like the gerber puffs... so he can learn to self feed....if he hates something agian.. try it again in a week or so... just like when you were offering new baby foods...

im doing better.... down to puking once a day.... and no.. i dont want to find out... ill find out when baby is born lol

Little Lenny eats what we eat except for corn, nuts, citrus, raisins, hot dogs (pretty much anything he might choke on). Everything is cut into small, pea-size, bites and he feeds himself. I started him out on Cheerios. At first, he wasn't interested in anything but playing with them. Eventually, he started putting them into his mouth and realized that he liked them.

His favorites are:
yogurt
mac & cheese
saltines
hawaiian sweet bread
green beans
graham crackers
chicken
goldfish crackers

Hi Ann,

Sorry about the busy week (job security, right?) and Nathan's fevers.  I don't recall what Emma was eating at the 9-12 month stage, sorry!  I do remember that she liked to hold a rubber coated baby spoon at all times when eating.  Even if she didn't use it to pick up food, she seemed to feel more like eating when she had it.

For infants, obviously plastic rectal thermometers are the most accurate.  I'm sure you know that the glass ones aren't recommended.  Do they even make those still?

Anyway, for my 4yo daughter, we use the arterial one below.  It's about $38 at Amazon, but I believe Costco and pharmacies carry them too.  They aren't recommended for children under the age of 3 as they aren't as accurate (according to our ped and Consumer Reports), but here's the link anyway:
Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer MODEL# 2000C

Another alternative is the digital pacifier thermometer, but it has to be kept in baby's mouth for 90 seconds.  It isn't quite as accurate as the rectal (approx 1 degree diff), but gets great reviews from our ped.

We have this one at home - and like the versatility of it.  Still using the rectal reading for Everett, and we keep extra batteries in the cupboard.
