I had a blood test Thursday  and got the results back today...the first number was 27.6 which they said was great...the second number was 476....They said the 476 number would be retested on Monday to see if it tripled. I don't understand what this all means and would love to know if anyone else does.

Thanks guys

Congrats!

That number is the level of hCg, the pregnancy hormone, in your body.  When you're not pregnant it is less that 5.  The fact that it is increasing is good.  Your level should be doubling or tripling every 48 hours.  You are very early in your pregnancy judging by your numbers, but on Monday it should be going up!  I just got mine tested on Wednesday and it was 1300, today it was 2350 and I'm 5 weeks.  So it almost doubled in less than 48 hours which is great.  Your levels can get into the 20-30,000's into your 10th week, the it will drop a little because the baby's placenta will be taking care of the hormone production more.  Right now the placenta is not fully formed so your bodies hormones go into overdrive until it's finished forming.

Again congrats on your pregnancy!!!

We are unsure how far along we are, my initial level was 520, the repeat just shy of 48 hours later was 1421.

Wow, congrats! Are we considered to be higher risk if we're older and have had gastric?

The first number is your progesterone level....depending on your doctor anything above 23+ is good...the second is your Hcg which the others have done a good job in explaining....
At about 12 weeks the placenta takes over the progesterone production...

We may be high risk for age if over 35 but not for the WLS.  Even when I got pregnant 4 months post-op last time they didn't consider me high risk (I stopped losing) and said I was healthier than most of her other patients.  :-)

Congrats on your pregnancy!!  And if the numbers happen to quadruple on Monday, don't freak out that it's twins!  LOL...it'll be 4 days by then and quadrupling wouldn't be unusual since they about double every other day.

Good luck!!!
