Gas pain and pregnant...help!
Hi all--
I'm 8 years post-op, and it's been awhile since I've been to the board. I'm currently pregnant with my second child, and I've been having chronic awful upper abdominal trapped gas pain for the past two weeks. It's a pain I'm not unfamiliar with, since I do get it maybe....4 times a year or so when I'm 'normal'....as an unfortunate side effect of my RNY. Anyone deal with this before during pregnancy? Any helpful hints? I'm totally at a loss and kinda going crazy because it won't go away :( TIA for any help you might have.

OMG I so don't miss that. I had the worst gas pains at the beginning of my pregnancy and into the second trimester. I seriously though I was dying a few times. I ate gasx like there was no tomorrow. It helps, a lot! And it is safe to take. Try the mint chewable ones, they actually don't taste bad and they help pretty fast. You could even try baby gas drops, they seem to work pretty fast as well. I also heard getting on all fours and rocking back and forth helps.
What ever you do, I hope you find something that helps.

Lol...I had to laugh/grimmace. I am actually sitting after walking the block trying break loose my current bout. I have been having episodes of crazy painful upper gas about once a week since I've been pregnant.....actually its my biggest symptom. Tonight it was stupid spicy chinese food that did me in. I take Gas-x cause my OB says its fine but really the only things that doo the trick are walking, Yoga, and riding in the car. Also a good trick is to rub your stoma*****lockwise circles firmly. Apparently this increases peristalsis in your bowel. Believe it or not it does help....I'm actually doing it now and the tummy is gurgling away! One more thing is ho****er with lemon....lots of it! Try these things, they do work...I am fast becoming the Gas expert. Lol its these times that I actually look really pregnant already (I'm 4 months). My poor belly is so distended that I look 6! But, whatever you do, start now. The longer I sit around in pain, the harder it is to get rid of it! Good Luck!

Just wanted to thank you all for your responses. It's just the crappiest thing ever, isn't it. And there are no real good solutions, which is the rough part :( I look about 6 month pregnant too, and I also am only 17 weeks. I did go to Walgreens and get something called Digestive Advantage, Gas Defense, which claims to help with intestinal gas. So I hope that works. I've used GasX and I haven't had any luck with it, unfortunately. I actually pulled a muscle in my back because of all the contorting I've been doing trying to twist away from the shooting pains from the gas. *sigh* I don't remember having *this* much pain with my daughter 3 years ago. Well, hopefully it will begin to let up or at least get more tolerable soon. Good luck with your pregnancies :)
Oh I know what you mean. My poor hubby wanted a divorce at times when I was early on...it was awful. Every night when I would lay down in bed it's like I was so relaxed it would just come...and every time I would turn over more. I never took anything b/c I'm trying not to take anything I don't "have" to. But if you are in pain I would say take some gasx or when it starts lie down and see if being relaxed helps you to release some pressure. It does get better and then it started again ( for me) and now it's gone again...so best of luck!!
