I will be having my first IUI in a few weeks and I was wondering if anybody knows how well theses things usually go?  Do you guys know any success stories, and if so, how many tries did it take?  I was very excited about it until I got info from the internet, and the statistics were not as good I at first thought.  What do you guys think??

My 2 1/2 year old is an IUI success using donor sperm. It took the first cycle that we used donor sperm. We had tried 2 cycles before that unsuccessfully before we knew how bad my husband's sperm counts were. Praying that your first cycle is your last!! ;o)

I have 2 IUI babies.  Before WLS, I have no idea how many times we tried.  Thankfully, I have good insurance.  Postop, I got pregnant with Kaden on the first try!  When trying for #2 I got pregnant on try #3, but lost that baby about 12 weeks.  I got pregnant with Bryson on try #2 after my m/c.  The technology is changing fast, or at least what they do for you at Kaiser is... With Kaden(and before my WLS)  I was doing POAS ovulation kits to determine IUI timing.  I had an occasional ultrasound, but it was not standard.  With the last 2 pregnancies I was monitored with u/s every step of the way.  I had an u/s at CD 3 and then starting about day 8 (I think**) they'd monitor me every other day or daily until timing was right.  I also used clomid.  Once I was pregnant, I had an u/s every wee****il week 6 when I was released to my (high risk) OB.  (High risk due to history of diabetes and asthma, NOT because of the wls.. in fact, he referred me to have wls to help get pregnant!)  Hopefully that wasn't TMI for you!

My first daughter is an IUI success!! I got pregnant with her on the 2nd try. Then DH and I got a surprise BFP when she was 6 months old, sadly I lost that baby, and  we decided to start IUIs again. We tried 3 times (my DH has HORRIBLE sperm counts - like 1 million after being washed) but no BFP so we were on a break to start IVF when SURPRISE another BFP on our own :)

I've had one IUI...one pregnancy.  The mc had nothing to do w/the IUI...they're pretty sure it's because my hormones are out of whack.  I'll probably be doing IUI again next month.  When my dr did my IUI, he was carping on again about my age..how difficult it is for a 41 year old to get pg...blah blah blah...that even w/o IUI etc I only have a 5-10% chance of getting pg again...and that the IUI would increase that to 10-15%.  Don't believe all the statistics you read out there is basically what I'm telling you...because the statistics would say that beginning at age 40, I wouldn't have been able to get pg 4x in a year and a half - 3x on my own.

Good luck.  I hope to read your BFP post soon!

I have had 5 IUIs, #2 and #5 worked.  They didn't stick, but the IUI worked.  In general, they give you a 20% chance each IUI -- 1 in 5 will work.  I am either encouraged or discouraged with mine then.  I got 2 out of 5 to work.  Now I wonder if I won't get another to work for a while....

In general, though, it has to do with the reason you are doing IUI.  If it is just a male factor or unknown, your chances of success are higher...

My daughter was conceived with IUI- We tried two times without ultrasound, and it was a no go. The third time was with Clomid and ultrasound tracking, and it worked!  We combined that with LH surge testing, so we timed the IUI within six hours of my surge, as well as an ultrasound before just to be sure the follicles were close. Luckily the clinic where my OBGYN practices only charges $100 for the entire cycle, includng ultrasounds and appointments. That was a blessing!! I also temped at home and checked mucus on my own, to get a good feel for my cycle. We are heading in in September to try for #2, and intend to usethe same process again. Good luck! I know it sucks, but it is worth it in the end!

I had three IUI's and got pregnant on #3 IUI. The first cycle was just with clomid to see how I responded. The second and third were with injections and clomid. I miscarried at 8 1/2 weeks. I just did IUI #4 (second AF after miscarriage) and I am in the 2ww.

If you have any questions or need anything, please let me know!
