Once they do the retrieval, they'll know how many are mature enough to fertilize and then how many of the fertilized ones divided and are viable. Typically, your RE will tell you how many they recommend implanting, usually based on your (your eggs') age. Embryos are graded, too, so they'll transfer at least one or two of the healthiest ones. You can then freeze the remaining embryos (I HIGHLY recommend this).

Thanks for the breakdown. I think the my treatment with Chlomid only had 6 follicles and so this one seemed extremely high, the number. We are planning on freezing any extra.
