Naseua and the Lap Band

Hi everyone!  Its been awhile since I 've been on here and I'm so hestitant.  Yet I'm so desparate.  last time I was on, I found out at nine weeks that our baby had no heart beat and probably stopped about 6.5 weeks.   I had surgery and it was the worst experience.  Thanks for all those who supported me.  About 5 months later we are about 8 weeks pregnant again.   I was so lucky b/c I had already schedule an annual gyn appt before I even knew and then they confirmed it knew my pain and got us right in for an ultrasound.  There was a heartbeat!!! Yeah so grateful.   I didn't have an ultrasound with my first child until 10 weeks.  Everyday I have so much anxiety considering what we just went through.  Then on top of it I'm' so sick.  I already take 3 Zofran a day and still feel horrible throughout the day.   With the band and restriction on top of it, I feel like I'm in a terrible nightmare. B/C you get sicker when you are hungry but then for a week or so I couldn't get anything down either.  I can get food down now (TG) but any tips on feeling better I'll take.

Also, when I called my WL surgeon the main nurse said they'd totally deflate my  band if I was having issues. At first I was very upset.  Now, it is very tempting.  I asked lots of folksprior to us getting preg about did they get deflated even those who were very sick the whole pregnancy and they said no.   They wouldn't just take a little out like I've done before.

So any bandsters out there who were really sick the whole time but did or didn't get deflated?? I'd love to hear your story.

Any non bandsters that were really sick and how they made it through?

Any people who have lost a baby and dealt with all the anxiety of another one, how did you?

I agree with my ob that beins sick is a really good sign for a healthy pregnancy but I'd like to feel better.

Thanks for listening or reading!

Im so sorry to hear of your previous loss and congrats on this new baby.  I pray that all goes well wih you.

I also have the band.  Went through the exact same thing as it sounds like you are with being sick.  Between being sick, and drained, and then getting stuck, I could barely get anything down at all and then would even have to throw up just for some relief.  I finally decided to make an appt to get a slight unfill because I knew I wasnt eating enough for the baby.

I went in and told her what was going on.  I  asked her how much she thought I should have taken out and she said she was going to take it all out.  I asked why and she said so that I can eat.  I told her that it wasnt really an option for me because I have worked too hard to get this far and then it costs me 125 dollars each appt and that would be crazy expensive after the baby is born to get the band filled again.  I talked to her some more and told her I know my body well enough to know that taking just a little out would be just fine.  I think she saw the desperation in my eyes so she agreed to take out just 2cc's.  She told me that if it didnt work and it wasnt enough she would take all out and not just a little again.  I told her that was fine.  So she took out the two and it has been perfect.  No more sickness at all and im not even drained or tired anymore.  It was a blessing because I would have been miserable the WHOLE pregnancy if I wouldnt have tried it.  I still think I might have had it all taken out if there absolutely wasnt any other option but I didnt want to tell her that.

I have gained 6 pounds since my slight unfill about two weeks ago.  That is so depressing.  Now between the baby and being able to eat more again it has been hard to adjust but I am doing it.  I have stayed the same weight for about three days now so I am working on it haha.

Good luck.  Keep me posted, now I am interested. :)

I had a loss where the babies heart stop at about 9 weeks. I am now 6 weeks 3 days. I have the same anxiety and even had a major melt down on the phone with the office today when they told me I could not see my regular doctor on Thursday. There is a great message board on babyzone.com. It is called pregnancy after loss and the women are wonderful and very much supportive. A friend of mine went through a loss later in her pregnancy and now has a healthy 1 1/2 year old. She said one of things about experiencing a loss is it takes away the innocents of pregnancy and I have to completely agree.

I too am a bandster and I am wondering the same things as you. My doctor wants to take it all out, so I have not gone in yet. I am just eating small meals several times a day. If you are vomiting though you need to get an unfill so your band does not slip.

Good luck to you and prayers are headed your way,
Emily

How exciting!! I was wondering how you were doing!! This is wonderful news that everything is looking good so far. I pray you have a happy and healthy nine months!

When I had talked to Dr. Smith about TTC he said they would do a little deflation in the first trimester if I needed it and would do a fill in the second trimester if I wanted it back. It was just if I was having severe nausea. So, maybe that is an option? You don't have to have a total deflation. I am sure Suzie would let you know.

Stay strong!

i can totally relate!!!!! i was beyond sick and when i could eat i would get stuck on everything!  i lost 15 pounds in a short time....when i finally got in to see my wl doc he said he was gonna take it all out...at first i was like YES...anything to get me relief!!!! and he did it...i was able to eat regular and it made a huge difference...i had so much more energy....even the nausea has lifted some... i was like you...3 zofrans a day... now i just take one usually...
on the flip side...i am a food addict and now being able to eat everything with no restriction feels kinda dangerous and scary...but just remember your baby and body need you to be able to eat...the beauty of the band is once we give birth we can get a fill shortly after.....
how far long are you?

I had pretty bad nausea from weeks 8-14, so I went in and had just about 1cc taken out of my band. That plus zofran really helped a lot. After the nausea passed, I went back and had about .75cc put back in. I didn't have any trouble for the rest of my pregnancy! I gained 20-25 lbs (depending on what day it was) but by the time I got home from the hospital I was only 4 lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight. Now, almost 6 weeks out, I'm 8 lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight and going for a fill today!
If they won't do just a small unfill, go ahead and have it taken out, i really think it is worth it to feel better!

Thank you to all the bandsters that responded.  I was doing better there for about 5 days and had a bout for the last two were I couldn't eat when I tried but got sicker b/c my stomach was empty.

Again, a total deflate is so tempting just to feel better and wouldn't it be great to enjoy a hamburger!?!

Someone asked how far along. I am 9 weeks now but I was sick with my first child the whole pregnancy but I didn't have the band.

Anybody else have to be deflated entirely or somewhat for their pregnancy? Love to hear how it worked out and was the weight gain really large doing that and hard to take off after birth.

I've lost 75lbs and a cash patient so I'd hate to throw that all away if I had another choice.

Thanks again,
