Hi there!
When does your insurance kick in? I am sure there are clinics in your area that you could establish care of some kind. Weight gain is for sure part of the deal. I am four years out and I gained 22 lbs with my baby.

I was only 4 months post op when I got pregnant and still managed to gain 50 lbs with my son.  Lost 42 within the first 2 weeks though.  That was nice!  LOL!  And he was 10.5 lbs.

Hunger is normal.  I was ravaging the first trimester with my son.  I asked my OB why and she said HORMONES.

I didn't take chewable vits but I got the target brand ones and they were small like a tylenol and easy to swallow.

Good luck!

Hi Valerie,

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

On the hunger issue - I would suggest eating something every 2 hrs.  Fill up on as many veggies and protein snacks as possible.  Mozzarella string cheese and apple slices is one of my favs.  The more protein, the more satisfying and sustaining.  Lots of fluids also helps.  I'm not PG anymore and I'm STILL hungry most of the time LOL

Even though you are not currently covered by insurance, any Planned Parenthood can offer you a prenatal checkup for little to no cost (sliding pay scale).   In VT, there are several other programs available to uninsured or non-incomed pregnant women.  Prenatal care is VERY important not just for your baby, but for you as well!

I took 2x Adult Centrum Chewables in the first few weeks, and added folic acid and more calcium citrate.  Some women take 2x Flinstone vitamins, but I was always leery of this when PG. Eventually, I had a script for chewable prenatals (NataChew).  Some of the OTC prenatals also come in liquid form (health food stores), but these can often contain herbs or other ingredients that *may* not be safe for your or baby.  The advantage to scripted prenatals is that every ingredient is closely monitored by the FDA so you are sure to get exactly the dosage of each particular vitamin.  Again, a clinic can call in the script to a Walmart pharmacy for 30x Prenatal Plus prescription vitamins and the cost is $4.  You can ask the pharmacist about the possibility of crushing the pills and if that alters the effectiveness in any way - then add to applesauce if swallowing them is out of the question.

I wish you a healthy and happy remainder of your pregnancy and hope you will keep us posted on your journey.

Hugs,

I JUST WANTED TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THE REPLY. I HAVE BEEN TO A CLINIC AND I AM TAKING OTC PRENATALS , IRON,B12, AND CALCIUM BUT I AM JUST WORRIED THAT THE PILL FORMOF PRENATALS MAY NOT BE GOOD ENOUGH. I AM GOING TO BE COVERED BY MY HUBBYS INSURANCE IN SEPT. AND I AM CURRENTLY WAITING ON A PROGRAM TO GIVE ME AN ANSWER TO COVER ME UNTIL I GET COVERED BY HUMANA AND ONCE I GET HUMANA IT WILL KICK IN AS A SECONDARY COVERAGE. IT IS A FORM OF MEDICAID BUT IT GOES BY YOUR INCOME TO SEE WHETHER OR NOT YOU QUALIFY. I AM HOPING THAT THIS EXTEME HUNGER GOES AWAY AND I WILL POST PICS AND KEEP EVERYONE UPDATED. I NEED AS MUCH SUPPORT FROM PPL WHO ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING AS ME AT THE MOMENT. I AM JUST UPSET BC I ALREADY HEARD THE COMMENT "WATCH HER GET FAT AGAIN" AND I HAVE COME TO FAR FOR THAT TO HAPPEN AGAIN. WELL THANKS FOR LISTENING AND I WILL POST SOON!

Congrats on your pregnancy.  I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months.

Re the people making comments about 'watch you get fat again,' tell them to kiss your ass - whether it's fat or skinny - and move on...you don't need people like that in your life.
