My Prenatals make me sooo constipated!
Some prenatals have colace built right in. I did take them if I didn't go for 4 or 5 days and my doctor did tell me to take one a day but I don't like to take anything while pregnant. Have you tried seriously increasing your fiber? If you eat one Fiber and Omega bar and 2 Fiber one yogurts a day that is 19 grams right there. Add too it the fiber for life bread, 4 slices a day and you are now over your RDA of fiber at 31 grams. The more the better though. You can't have too much fiber.
Good luck, it really sucks to be constipated and pregnant!

I was sooo constipated at the beginning of my pregnancy I cried!! I called my Dr and they wanted me to do stool softners. There is a certain kind so ask your Dr. I also added fiber one bars. DRINK MORE WATER!! I was told if you up your fiber and don't liquid you get worse. Drink apple juice, juicy juices, water, and milk. Mine has gotten better for now hope yours does to.

Hi Shannon--
Constipation sucks!
There are different ways to tackle constipation...for me, I cram fiber into my diet like it's going out f style. Daily, I have at least one serving of high-fiber V-8 juice (5 grams fiber), at least one green leafy salad, and some kashi products. Not to mention steamed veggies, fresh fruit, etc.
Preventing dyhydration helps too...more fluid intake....the softer the output. So, I push water and the high-fiber V-8, and have a bit of caffeine here and there too.
As a last resort, I've used Phillips stool softener pills to assist during my pregnancy. Luckily, I've only taken them twice in the past 28 weeks.
I've barely suffered any constipation with this pregnancy and I hope it stays that way! (Paula knocking on wood.)

I am taking the NatureMade Prenatal Softgels. I was also suffering from constipation and my OB said that I could take the Colace stool softeners, but I didn't want to have to take those regularly. I started incorporating a fruit smoothie and more leafy veggies into my diet everyday and it seems to be working. I am also making an effort to drink more water. I have heard that hemorroids can be a beast while pregnant, so I am also trying to avoid that.
If all else fells, I will have a cup of decaf coffee and that tends to do the trick.
Good luck....
