Pregnant right after Surgury

Hello everyone,

I have RNY on May 27, 2009 and have lost nearly 40 lbs.  I have just found out that I am 8 weeks pregnant.  I have spoken with the Surgeon who says things will be OK and I have also been refered to a high risk OB.  Has anyone else been through this?  I want to keep the baby, my husband and I tried for 4 years without success and we using protection at the time.  Seems like it was meant to be?

well as long as you have a great team helping you and you do what you need then CONGRATS!!! Not ideal timing but nothing you can do about sneaky ones. Just follow the rules and do whatever it takes which I am sure you will and everything falls into place.
Good luck and congrats again!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Ideal timing? No. Still a blessing? Absolutely!

I was just 1 month postop when I conceived our 3rd child (was on BCPs). Start eating carbs tonight. Thankfully Andrea and others here helped me through the nutritional part and stressed the importance of upping carbs to slow ketosis. Complex carbs are best (whole grains), but simple carbs will do the trick if that's all you can keep down. Of course you should speak with your nut. to find out what best meets your nutritional needs (specific amounts of carbs, protein, supplements, calories, etc). Increasing calcium, iron and fluids together with more carbs and protein is usually the magic combo. Add a prenatal vitamin and have labs drawn frequently as levels fluctuate quickly as the little bean draws from your stores.

Many women here have continued to lose *healthy* amounts of weight during pregnancy. Though that obviously isn't the goal, it is quite common. RAPID weight loss during PG, however, isn't ideal.

I know the excitement and pure elation of PG following infertility, and am happy for you and your SO. There is a lot of wisdom, support and experience on this forum, so feel free to ask questions. These ladies really helped me through my pregnancy and I have a healthy 3 month old boy as a result!

Congratulations again and please feel free to PM if I can be of help.

Hugs,

Jo

Congrats on your pregnancy.

As the others have said...since you're so early out...please make keep up w/your dr/nut...and up your carbs to avoid any complications.

Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Many of us have been there - what can ya do?!  LOL. I got pregnant 4 months post op myself.  And like Jo (Spencer52) said, keep up with the carbs and make sure you stay on top of EVERYTHING else.  We tried for 8 years to get pregnant and forgot a condom ONCE after WLS.  Still had a 10.5 lb healthy baby boy with NO complications.  So it can happen!  Matter of fact, there are waaaaay more success stories about this than not.

GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!!!
