So I am about 5 weeks pregnant and am feeling pretty good apart from the constant tiredness!! My major concern though is that I feel hungry ALL THE TIME . I'm am trying to keep everything healthy, and I'm also trying eating little and often...but I am still hungry! IS this normal?

I've noticed I can eat alot more at meal times than I could previously, although I am sticking to the rules and have added some carbs back in to my diet. I have also gained like 3lbs in a week  which I am upset about! I know in pregnancy we have to gain weight back, but surely not 3lbs in a week in the first trimester?? I know I've been eating more, but have been sticking to 1200-1400 calories a day as per my NUT, so surely I'm not eating too much?!

ARGH!!!!! I'm a bit all over the place with this, please can somebody save me before I go out of my mind!

Many Thanks,
Vicky

You are probably having some bloating/water gain. I say you are doing fine. You have to add a few carbs, good for baby. If you aren't exercising get started...lol I too am more hungry feeling all the time while pregnant. Just wait until the cravings start...lol Little and often is good. Be glad there is no morning sickness...lol You are not eating too much...most nuts want us to eat a little more, add a glass of milk or something. Good luck and this is a great place for support. Thanks very much for the reply! I have been driving myself mad! I am exercising still, but have been advised to change my routine- I have been advised to keep to swimming and walking and to avoid all contact sport etc.

I have started to feel nauseous, although eating seems to help this lol!! Should I be eating more then? My NUT told me that at the moment I didn't need to increase my eating, but I was thinking maybe I should be getting a few more calories in!

Thanks again!
Vicky

Hmmmm... My nut wanted me to eat 2000 cals a day. I told her there was no way possible...lol I know there are new post ops here that can't even eat the 1200. I say stick to what your nut says, as long as she is a wls informed nut...and if she wants you to eat more an easy way really is a glass or two of milk if you can tolerate it. One important thing is to make sure you are taking your prenatals faithfully. Also have your vitamin levels monitored regularly. Baby will take what it needs from you and you don't want to end up deficient. I know after wls we monitor our levels every 6 months or a year. Pg I am doing mine monthly. Things change drastically sometimes while pg. One month everything was fine, the next super low b-12 and really low iron....so I was able to add supplements right away. In a way the supplements are making sure we are getting enough nutrition to the baby even though we can't eat enough. And I know you have added some carbs, which is really good....going into ketosis is bad for baby. And it is common that keeping something small on your stomach helps the nausea. Good luck! Shari

I agree with the bloating and water gain. Heck, I gain at least 5 before my regular period. I am always hungry....constantly. I gained four lbs in week five, but have relost that plus 9 lbs. I eat all the time. It drives me crazy, but as this is not my first post-op baby...I know it's okay. It seems my stomach has never stretched past the 3 oz mark. I never felt like I could eat more while pregnant, but I think it''s because with Niko I had hyperemesis and threw up everything.

Try and relax. We all struggle with the fact that we have to gain weight for the baby. It's an emotional thing for us.

Don't worry about that three pounds...I am sure it is just bloating right now as everything starts moving up and out of the way. I did the same thing, my first trimester as a whole I lost from 184 down to 176 and I am just now back up to 180 which is where I am hovering...it will even out I promise...just keep eating good and it will all work out.

Just remember you are nourishing your little baby and it needs all those good things you are eating! Don't worry about the weight it doesn't make our tool ineffective after pregnancy!

I'm in the same boat as you.  I'm 4 weeks and I'm friggin STARVING all the time.  Even from before I knew I was pregnant.  I eat like 10 times a day, it's so frustrating!  I actually lost 2lbs this week???  but I feel like I am eating like a horse, and nothing is bothering me!  I sure hope it's normal lol

AH- the joy of pregnancy.  Hunger, mine never returned after WLS, until I got pregnant.  You'll be just fine..eat well, don't cave to junk, and keep active.  I am sure you are having bloat weight.

I'm 20 weeks, and struggled with morning sickness a lot, so overall I had lost about 10lbs during my first trimester. However! That was after I gained 6lbs in 4 days!!! I was about 2 weeks pregnant, and it was ALL boob. I was in so much pain, I could barely sleep, and I went up 2 full cup sizes in one week. Since then, things have settled down. I've regained a little of what I had lost, and I'm starving all the freakin time! I agree with previous posters about bloating - don't stress!

You're normal!  I got pregnant 4 months post op and went thru the same thing.  They wanted my calories at 1000 and I had NO problem reaching that by the ravenous hunger I had at the begining of my pregnancy.  I gained about 2 lbs INSTANTLY with both pregnancies before the BFP even showed.  That never happens to me!

Keep on eating the healthy stuff.  I ate cashews.  That was my craving.  And it easily adds the calories!
