OT: Bilirubin levels

Saturday was my 4 year surgeriversary and so when I was in the doctors office on Thursday I got my blood work done.  My doctor called me this afternoon to let me know everything looks great, except my bilirubin level is elevated.  She asked me if I still have my gallbladder, and I do.  We are going to check my levels again in a month and see what those results are.  Any one ever had their bilirubin elevated?  What was done about it?

my bilirubin was a little elevated (like 1.5 and the normal high is like 1.2?) and my doc says it's nothing to worry about.  He mentioned something about Gilbert's Syndrome and that  it's harmless and nothing to worry about.  Google Gilbert's Syndrome if you want to find out  more.   I'm not worried though.   I don't have a gallbladder either, so I'm not sure if that would get rid of your high bilirubin problem.

Gilbert's syndrome, pronounced 'zheel-BAYR', often shortened to GS, also called Gilbert-Meulengrachts syndrome, is the most common hereditary cause of increased bilirubin and is found in up to 5% of the population (though some gastroenterologists maintain that it is closer to 10%). The main symptom is otherwise harmless jaundice, which does not require treatment, caused by elevated levels of unconjugated bilirubin in the bloodstream (hyperbilirubinemia).

Shortly after I had the triplets I had a bili come back on the high side and was schedualing all the tests doc wanted for it when I had my first galbladder attack (I swore I was having a heart attack and was going to die, even called 911. It was NOT fun). After the attack they looked at my liver and galbladder to see if there where stones, and there was several along with what they call "sludge". I went on a super bland diet for three weeks and they retested my bili levels, they where still high so I had to have my galbladder removed.

They tested me again two weeks after surgery and my bili was completely normal.
