whole milk..
let me start out by saying that i plan to keep jayson on formula until he is one... however... i was wondering when people started giving whole milk with meals... or just to drink during the day.. i really dont want to give him juice... i feel as if its glorified sugar water... jayson does fine with yogurt and i mix his grits with milk... no problems so far
we did whole milk at 1 year old.
we continued with it until I was informed of studies on whole milk and toddlers having heart disease from the animal fats.
so from here on out at 2 years old we will switch to 1%.

I'm looking. I was given the information at my WIC visit a year ago.
as a matter of fact, in ohio starting in October, you will no longer be able to even BUY whole milk for kids over 2 with wic vouchers.

About one day a week or so we were making Libby's cereal with whole milk and our pedi told us to stop! She said it gives Libby more of a chance to become allergic to milk. Hmm okay, but she does fine? So, we stopped until she hits a year old.

My ped told us to use whatever milk we used. We use 1% and my daugher is tolerating that fine (he told us flat out that she didnt need the milk fat because she eats regular food). However, if she was a fussy eater, that may be a different story. Basically, she is a the point that she'll try anythng we try. She'll let us know if it is something she really dislikes...example: swiss cheese verse cheddar. She also ate yogurt prior to being 1, and the ped never expressed a concern about it. Our Ped is pretty flexable...we are withholding certain foods (our choice) from our daughter and he has be A okay with it...as long as we are being logically. He also already spoken to us about the peer pressure that she will likely face as a result of our choices for her and she's only 13 months. Right now we give her milk in the AM and PM... and daycare gives her some (but we are weening there too). She doesnt want it during the day on the weekend..we offer and she quickly refuses it (of course it's not in a bottle either). We figured we's ween from formula, then from the amount of milk, then the no Baba issue. Thats our plan of attack.
I took a nutrition class for kids a couple of years ago and was told the fat in milk is good for brain development. It should be used used from age 1-5. That being said, the nutrition also said that as long as they are getting fats from other foods it is okay not to use whole milk. She also told us that there is more concentrated protein in 1 and 2% milk, which may cause constipation.
