When did you start gaining weight w/your pg?

Ok, so I'm only 5 weeks now and am wondering about weight gain.   The lowest I got to was about a month ago, which was 140.   Before I got pg a few weeks ago, I was going between 141 to 143.   Now I get on the scale today and I'm 145!!

I am so thrilled to lose all this weight, and now to be pg after just one time trying- but am scared about the weight gain.   I know I will gain like 30 pounds but am wondering when the real weight gain should start.   It says on this pregnancy newsletter I am getting now that the baby is the size of a sesame seed now, so I shouldn't be gaining weight yet.

With my other two kids (pre-op), I was 215 and then 265 and gained 35 with my first and then only 16 with my second.   All the weight came off (and then some) within 2-3 weeks of having my babies because I had no appetite (had to force myself to eat some days) for the first month and was nursing.   It was especially good with my 2nd, I gained 16 with the pg and then lost 35 in 2 1/2 weeks after I had her!  I am wondering with me now being "normal" BMI-wise how much weight I will gain and then losing it, if that will be hard.

When did you first start gaining weight and how much did you gain?   How long did it take you to lose it and HOW did you lose it?   Thanks!

Christie

I haven't gained yet. really.  I lost up to 16 (I fluctuate) after I found out I was pregnant but now its hovering around 12/13 lost.

some days it goes down, some it goes up.

I think I'll gain it back soon though.

oh and any weight gain this early is most likely just bloating!!!

I started gaining around month 6. I was 122 pounds at the start of this pregnancy and had major GERD issues progress that made me lose for a short while.  I am due to deliver in the AM Tomorrrow and i have gained a total of 21 pounds and the Doctor expects a good size 8 pound baby girl.

I plan on reducing my carb intake after i have her, i have lived on carbs during this pregnancy and i am sure i will have issues with cutting back at the start........but i will just jump right on track where i left off.

Wow Heather, only 21 pounds!!   Good luck tomorrow and congratulations!!

And yeah, I do feel and look a little bloated, maybe that is the explanation for the extra pound or two...    Well that and eating a little more than usual here and there because I am a little more hungry lately!

I also have gained a couple of pounds in the last couple of weeks. I am sure that we are both just bloated. I know its not the baby.....
I am also very paranoid about putting on too much. I was 260 lbs  when I got pregnant with my daughter. I was so uncomfortable yuck! I got up to 320 after she was born and it was very hard to get it off.
I hope I only gain 20 to 30 lbs. I am eating very healthy. I guess thats all I can do. Make good food choices and hope the cravings don't control my eating.

I lost 17 pounds in the begining and just this past week have started gaining and I gained 2 pounds so far. I think in the begining a little here and there was loss and gain for me. So gain a pound lose two and that kind of thing. So I would not worry this early in. Bloating is hard for us anyway and any time I see a big fluctuation in a day or two it is hard to see. It gets better!!!

When I was like 4w-5w pregnant I gained like 2 lbs instantly before even knowing I was pregnant.  Couldn't figure out what the gain was from.  I'm sure it's extra blood flow.
I gained 8 lbs the first half of my last pregnancy and then FORTY TWO the 2nd half.  I was only 4 months post-op when I got pregnant too so not sure how I gained THAT much.  However, he ended up being 10.5 lbs and I lost those 42 within 2 weeks of having him so it was mostly baby and fluid.

With this pregnancy I gained 5 lbs insantly and now at 23 weeks I've gained 19 lbs.  Of course, it's twins...but the other twin mommies here are NOT gaining like me.  WAH!!!  I just tend to gain easily.

Good luck!

Thank you for posting this as I was about to post something similar! I too am 5 weeks pregnant, I only found out last Wedsnesday, but since then have gained 3lbs and was thinking surely that isn't normal?!!! I have been eating alot more, but have been making healthy choices and know I definately couldn't have put on 3lb from what I have eaten in less than a week!

Whilst I accept that we have to put on weight in pregnancy, I'm hoping this isn't an indicator of my total weight gain or I will be the size of a house!!

Best of luck with your pregnancy!

Vicky
