Question about carseats and the cars that can hold them

Okay ladies,

Assuming that on March 17th(week 38+6days) I will be having a new addition, how does the two carseat thing work. Do I have to put Niko's carseat in the middle? I know that's the safest place, but I'll have the baby in his/her seat in the middle. Niko will be 18 months old at the time. We have a Ford Focus station wagon. Dave says he thinks I need to venture into SUV or minivan territory, but I LOVE my car....and it's paid for. This is an awesome time to buy a car, though....sooooo, what are your thoughts? What do you drive that holds two carseat(and a 5' 10" teenager)? Do you like it? Any suggestions?

Hugs,
Angie

We have Dylan behind my seat and Jack behind my husbands.   We have a Saturn Vue and a Trailblazer.

Car seat issue aside, where are you going to put either a double stroller or two strollers?  I understand the pain of loving the car, but honey, it's time to get a new one.  LOL

I would say that two car seats are doable if it was just the two kids, but add the teenager and there is no way that's going to be comfortable.

Since we are about to have 3 car seats, we are getting rid of the Saturn and getting a minivan (sob sob sob, lol).

Edited to add:    I must have glazed over the wagon part.   Still, we barely fit all the crap in the back of the trailblazer for the twins.

I have a Nissan Armada. Bella sits behind the passenger side and Bailey sits behind me. Bella has a Graco safeseat and Bailey has a Britax Marathon. I can't put one next to the other -the seats are two wide. I can put one in the middle of each of the back seats - BUT.... than I can't fit any of their crap in the back (I have a bumbleride side by side stroller that is AWESOME but takes up space). So they both sit on the side of the 1st bench seat and I fold down the one in the back - that is ok along with the stroller in the back I have a changing pad and all the supplies I need for parkinglot diaper changes - makes life easier!!!

Angie I don't know how well they will fit side by side, ours didn't! I had the 3 babies at once and we couldn't get them buckled properly!

I am thinking it's time for a new bigger car! I say a SUV or the dreaded mini van  which I had a windstar/freestar once and I loved it!

Sorry, sweetie, I think Dave's right.  :(  Minivans aren't so bad.  They're mommymobiles.

We have a Toyota Sienna 8 Passenger so I have three seats right behind the driver and passengers seats. We have two Britax Marathons and a Britax Roundabout in the center between the two Marathons They fit, but forget about lifting the seat to get to the back 3 seats, so I put one Marathon with my almost 4 year old back there sometimes to free up our sliding seat. I love my Sienna with the built in roof mounted "mommy mirror" sees everything that is going on in the back. Stow and go seating is priceless too. My 2 cents but we love ours and it works for our current 6 kids and soon to be 7 until I can get Rick talked into a Mercedes Sprinter.

I have a Mercury Mountaineer and our 3 Graco snug ride car seats fit on one row of seating.  Thankfully our truck did not come with a 3rd row so we have extra trunk space for the two strollers.  However, the babies haven't arrived yet so I am not sure how having 3 newborns in one row with work.  I might be seeing a mini van in my future!!

A minivan is fine and will probably be less expensive than an SUV.  We have a minivan which worked well for 4 car seats and 3 adults, but when Hope was born we needed another seat so we bought a fullsize SUV.  If I only had two children, and had only one row of seats, I would put the baby in the middle and the toddler behind the my seat.  You can reach them that way (or at least I can).

I always put the youngest/smallest in the middle for each row in the car.

I had a Nissan Pathfinder with my two boys.  They both fit great but once they went to full size carseats, they couldn't be side by side.  It had a 3rd row but we never used it and the trunk was awesome for our sit-n-stand stroller and groceries and other junk.

However, now that we have the two boys and twin girls on the way, we got a gianormous Suburban that seats 8.  Even with the 3rd row we have an awesome trunk that fits the double stroller and groceries.  I could fit 3 full size carseats all the way across the 2nd row if absolutely needed.  Not boosters though where you use the actual seat-belts...my hands couldn't reach the belts easily.

Anyhoo, we got our SUV for the same, if not less, than a mini-van.  You would probably do fine with your station wagon but if your teenager ever has to sit in the back with the kids - they are probably NOT going to like it.

Good luck!
