My sister-in-law had a c-section and then what is called a UBAC - unassisted VBAC at home, just her and my brother. I was really worried about telling her that I am going to have a c-section too. Especially because I really wanted to try for a VBAC, but my hospital will only allow it if you have had just one previous c-section - I've had two. Also, she is very against c-sections.

When I did tell her, she was really good about it. She said her biggest problem was with woman who didn't do their research ahead of time and got a c-section for unnecessary reasons. Maybe your friend will be the same way because you clearly have researched this and have the medical background too.

Sorry but you already know this--your inlaws are major pains in the anus.  i think i'd avoid them at all costs.  make hubby have the uncomfortable conversations where they try to put all their issues on whomever will listen.  they need some xanax.  you're totally right....  it's your pregnancy and you have the right to experience it however you want.  with placenta previa, even if it's only "marginal", i would have an elective c-section too.  what's the use in risking bleeding to death during birth?  the baby needs momma.  so happy for you and can't wait to see the pics of your little miracle.

I am so sorry that the ILs are driving you crazy...but you are RIGHT...it is your body...and your business....

I LOVED my csection...I wanted one all along so I could control when I could get Nate off duty in MD....they did not offer one until 39 weeks when he measured 9 pounds 14 ounces and his head was in the 95th percentile...so it was wonderful....my only sucky part was the second night in the hospital I had TERRIBLE gas pains....worse than anything ever and I have had lots of surgery....Nate did not hear me crying as he was sleeping so hard....I had to call the nurse in....heat packs were my friend and percocet.....other than that it was awesome....

I cannot believe you are 14 weeks away...WOW....so happy for you!

I say who cares what they think but hope they see why after they absorb the info. Its you that has to be comfortable. You have to do what is right for you so just remember that. I support every womans choice or need in whatever that may be and wish everyone would do the same. I say that knowing my husbands family is the same way. They seem to never be happy with me or anything I do and they always seem to have nasty comments for me without directly doing it. So be strong and happy with what you have to do. I think all of us here feel that way. :)

Hey Paula,

I had a scheduled c-section with both of my kids.  My 1st was because my son was in a frank breech position. And my 2nd was because I elected for it.  They were a little painful for recovery, but I think any form of giving birth is.  I mean, hey, a baby is coming out of your body one way or another so it's bound to hurt a little.  :o)

It was very convenient to have a 'birth date' all picked out.  You know that on Oct 30th, you WILL have a son!  :o)  Very cool.

Good luck with in-laws.  Everyone always has an opinion. But you are doing what is best for you and your baby.

Paula,
I also had a c-section with Hannah because of rectal surgery.  By the time I was nearing the end of the pregnancy I was so tired of people asking why I was having a c-section.   I'm really surprised I didn't slap someone!

The c-section, compared to the rectal surgery was a breeze.   I think you will do fine with the pain.  I'm not going to say it was pain free, but it was easy compared to the three rectal surgeries.  Don't forget to ask for stool softener at the hospital (or take your own) because of the side effects of pain meds.

I like Shawna's answer...I think I may have used something similar in my last couple of weeks of pregnancy lol.

I'm a first timer and having a planned c/s. I had both of my hips pinned when I was 12 so my Ob and I think it wil lbe better and safer for me and my little man. Honestly at times I get a bit sad that I won't get to experience labor and natural delivery but then on the other hand I would hate to hurt that long and still wind up with a c/s. Which is most likely what will happen. I guess a vaginal birth is possible for me still but to me the risk just aren't worth me taking. Then if you really think about it I have heard horror stories about the nether regions after birth and you know what my woo hoo will still be just the same ( I know DH is as thrilled as me, lol). I have told lots of people and most understand or don't question only a few have mad this stupid face like " why would you want to do that" but who cares this is my baby and my body. As long as he gets here I'm not gonna be too particular about his entrance other than making sure he's healthy. I have waited too long for this moment to let anyone try to spoil it for me. You know what decision is right for you who cares if anyone else understands......in general most people are ignorant about medical things unless they have experienced it. P&PT's.
