Ok Ladies,

I need your input.........As I am rapidly approaching 32 weeks and the doc say our goal was 34 weeks then a c-section I need to know what to expect after.

I have never gone thru birth before so bear with me for the ignorance.
Will I bleed vaginally right after?  If so how much and how long?
What does the incision site feel like?  How long after til you were feeling back to your old self again?  Since I am pregnant with trips will that effect effect how much I bleed?  Anything else you think I forgot?

Starting to get REALLY nervous!!!  I have a Dr. appt Tuesday so I should know more info then.  That's if my skin doesn't explode from stretching.  Oh the pain!!!

Edited to Include:

I am seriously considering getting my tubes tied....will this effect the recovery?

Thanks

I will have my second c-section with this baby. The most imporant thing to do is move. I do not mean over do it but get up and walk around. The first time they have you get up, be sure to place a pillow over your adomen and hold it there. Also take your pain meds and stay on top them. My mom had twins and she said she had bleeding for about 6 weeks,  I think that is standard but every person experiance is different. You are going to need help, not only because your having 3 but because of your surgery, ask for it and have people lined up. I would also stock your frig, freezer, diapers, wipes and formula (if that is what you are using). That way you don't have to get out to the store until you are ready. The icision is not bad. Just keep it dry and clean. You can hardly see mine.

babyzone.com has a section on their website regarding c-section from articles to advice from other mom's. Also there is a good book called The Essential C-Section Guide, Mauareen Connolly is a co- author. If you are like me the more inforamtion I can get my hands on the better I feel. So just be prepared and try to get some rest before sleep is a thing of the past.

Good Luck,
Emily

Hi Carol!
I had a c-section last Nov and I did bleed - very lightly for a few weeks. It was annoying because It wasn't hard but I still had to wear a pad.  I felt numb around the incision for quite a while. Again, annoying but I am slowly getting feeling back now. (9 months later)
I felt good within a week or so but of course exhausted because of the sleepless nights.

Are you going to take a picture of your belly before you have the babies???

Hugs,
Erika

My c-section recovery wasn't as bad as I had expected.  I was pretty sore for the first few days (getting in and out of bed was the hardest for me).   I agree with the other poster about the more you move the better off you are, as long as you don't over do it.     I had family sheduled to stay with me for the first 2 weeks after Hannah was born.   I remember when my Aunt was here she was really disappointed that she didn't get to baby me more.   She held Hannah while I did housework lol.
I bled pretty bad after the c-section.  What I had wasn't normal.  They had to give me a shot and then insert something ( I don't remember if it was vaginally or rectally) to get my bleeding to stop.  My bleeding lasted past 14 weeks, which also isn't normal.   I had an IUD put in at my post partum visit and that was what was causing the irregular bleeding.  Once I had it removed, the bleeding stopped.
I haven't had my tubes tied, but I don't think it effects the recovery.
Good luck.  I can't wait to see pictures of your trips!

I had a bad c-section but I also delivered a moose.  I don't think they expected me to have a 10.5 lb baby and didn't make the incision big enough.  OUCH!
They did NOT tell me to keep baby powder in my "flap" of skin to keep it dry.  It got warm and moist in there and I got a small infection but it hurt like hell.  THEN they told me I should have been using baby powder - THANKS!  So, as soon as the actual skin heals, be sure to keep it dry. I was told to use like a maxi pad to put in my flap of skin to keep it dry, I just didn't do it till it started hurting and then it was too late.

I bled for about 5 weeks.  It wasn't like full on bright red blood but thinner and watery.  Get those Always super Infinity pads...they are supposed to hold a lot!  I mostly bled when I nursed.  I could feel the gush as soon as he'd latch on.  GROSS!

You will have numbness in the incision area.  I don't know what they did to me but even a few years later (and another pregnancy) I still have NO feeling in my incision area.  It itches sometimes but I can't get relief because I can't feel that I've itched it!!!  Like having a numbe face after the dentist.  LOL!

Good luck.  Take it easy afterwards and don't over do it.  I over did it with Kellen and was crying by nightfall.  I wasn't supposed to lift anything bigger than 8 lbs.  RIGHT!  With him being over 10, there went THAT idea.  :-)

Good luck!  And I wanna see a picture of your triplet belly!

Hi Carroll,

I didn't read the pp's so forgive me if I'm redundant.

1) Yes, you will bleed vaginally afterward, like a very heavy period.  It can last anywhere from a 1 to 6 weeks.  I had spotting off and on with this last delivery.

2)  The incision aches a bit if you don't stay ahead of it with pain meds.  For me, it was a pulling sensation that felt like I had been kicked in the lower belly repeatedly.  The first recovery was the hardest as I had labored (induced) for 3 days prior and was really, really sick.  The emergency c-section was hard and I had 20 minutes to prepare mentally.  This last c-section was a breeze comparatively.  I took pain meds the first 2 days and then switched to Tylenol for the next 4 days.

3)  I was up and walking that night - small steps to the bathroom or shuffling across the floor.  The next day I showered.  Then I ventured out of my room.  By the time I left the hospital 4 days later, I was walking up and down the hallways with just minor discomfort.  It took about 4 weeks before I really felt like myself again - 6 weeks before I could move around and not remember that I had a c-section.  PPD may have contributed to not feeling like myself, though.

4)  No idea on multiples affecting the amount of bleeding.

5)  No clue on the tubal.

Honestly, I found recovery from lap RNY to be worse than that from c-section.  Though you won't feel like it at first, walking and moving are the key to getting better faster.  The more you move, the better you will heal and feel.  I can't stress enough how important it is to stay ahead of the pain.  This ****** of a night nurse would keep *forgetting* to bring me my pain meds and it became unbearable and I became as nasty as she was.  Once I complained to the charge nurse and had meds regularly as scheduled, I was a completely different person.  Really!  And I am someone that doesn't take meds unless it's really bad.

You will do great and I am sooooo excited for you to be able to hold your babies!

Hugs,

Jo

well i just had a C section 3 weeks ago....and let me tell u i was thinking all the same thoughts as u...{cept i only had one in the belly! lol} WELL i can only tell u from experience...the cut is healing PERFECTLY and its barely noticeable....alot bigger then they sed it would be though...but then again no one will ever see it anyways so im not too worried....
The HARDEST part of the whole ordeal was getting in an out of bed....other than that everything was fine....take ur pain pills like the other posters said....they seriously got me through ALOT of the pain that im sure would have been much worse. DRINK LOTS OF WATER because the pain pills will constipate u....make sure u take COLACE with it or ask for it....and im only giving u this little tip of advice because as soon as i got home and although i was taking my colace...i got so backed up i had to take milk of mag....and i think {i have an apt monday to confirm what everyone is saying} i gave myself a hernia trying to push out a BM. :( so right at the moment im not doing so well....but it had nuthing to do with the actual C section....so i think ull be fine.
As for the bleeding....i bled the 4 days i was in the hospital....and it was minimal bleeding....and then i stoped as asoon as i got home. i wear a panty liner JUST incase because ive been spotting every other day...{kinda wierd...} sooo i never had a steady flow or HEAVY bleeding as other people i guess did. Although everyone says to get up and walk around...id be alittle careful. My DR was alittle shocked i had asked if i could go out for a walk down the road and she advised me not to. She told me 250ft to my mail box would be WELL over the amount she'd recommend....soooo i would just RELAX as much as u can...ud be surprised how much "walking around" ull be doing around the house so....

Id say id be back to my normal self as of right now 3 weeks out...IF i didnt have this hernia right on the incsion sight...and if it happens NOT to be a hernia...then ihave a very hard mass growing in there!! lol sooo it wont be long till ur back to nomral no worries. Enjoy every minute with all ur bundle of joys....thats going to be ALOT for u :) but i bet ur very excited. I know that these 3 weeks have FLOWN by and its amazing the amount of time u just sit staring at them for no reason....its truely a blessing.

***and the emotional aspect of the pregnancy will sink in after u have them....cuz i wusnt emotional all pregnancy...and yet i was weeping like a baby over every little thing after he was born.....its NORMAL :) {so i was told haha}

GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING!!!
