does this sound right with vitamins?

Hi guys!

I just found out I"m pregnant this week. Due to a previous miscarriage, my obgyn had me come in right away to make sure everything was going ok.

I asked her about the vitamins, and said to just continue with my 2 flintstones vitamins a day and calcium and b12 supplements and I will be fine.

It just doesnt sit right with me. I've been taking prenatal vitamins along with my calcium and b12.

I have an appt with my surgeon. Is it best for him to tell me what vitamins to take or should I take my obgyn's advice? Shouldnt I be taking more vitamins to supplement for the fetus?

sorry if this sounds confusing, I'm really excited and nervous. I really hope this baby decides to stick around.

No, it's not enough.  Of course, I don't think flintstones are appropriate supplementation for postops anyway.

I am not sure about the calcium and b12, but I had a friend who couldn't take prenatals when she was pregnant and they had her take 2 Flintstones.  Also, when I had my Lap-Band, my surgeon told me to take calcium everyday and if I didn't get the regular adult chewable vitamins, I needed to take 2 Flintstones.

I was advised to add Iron, C (to help absorb the iron), folic acid, D, prenatle, calciumx2, B12, and 20 more g. of protein. Granted I was very early post op when I got pregnant so that might be why.

Hi there, congratulations on your pregnancy!

I would say... Probably best to check with your surgeon... Why would your Obgyn want you to STOP the prenatal vitamins now that you're pregnant? Doesnt sound right to me either...  Have you had any labwork done anytime recently? Were you low on anything?

I am not yet pregnant, but I take 2 multivitamins (bariatric chewables), 3 calciums, 3 vitamin d's, b12 sublingual, and iron (bariatric chewable)- all daily.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

My OB GYN had me start prenatal vitamins the minute we decided to start fertility treatment.  I would think that would be necessary to continue throughout the pregnancy.

I currently take prenatals (CitraNatal Assure), Calcium Citrate, B12 as well as my weekly iron infursions (due to anemia).

I would really check with the surgeon as well, doesn't hurt!  Congratulations!
