Changing Diapers?
humm... I'm not a mom either, but my guess is you should change it every time it's wet. If she opens the diaper and it's not wet or pooped, i can see you closing it back up, but I don't know about reusing it after it's already wet.

I guess I don't view it quite the same...I don't even check a diaper unless it's smelly or feels heavy. Its possible that my kid has peed a bit in it and it doesn't seem wet and then re-pees in it? probably, but I don't really think that's a big deal. Once upon a time with cloth diapers any wetness at all could be a major deal, and wetness lingering on the skin usually leads to diaper rash. Today's diapers can stand holding a little pee without bothering a child. In my family (and I know this is subjective to each child) diaper rash is very rarely a problem. Don't get me wrong, I'm not purposely letting my kid super soak a diaper just to get every penny's worth of use out of it. But I don't think it's criminal to wait to change a diaper if cir****tances make it difficult. As long as a kid is healthy is all that matters in the end.
I am not alone, neither are you.
This question reminds me of a local radio station phone scam. DJ called Pampers and said he was disappointed in the quality of their diapers and felt they were guilty of false advertising. When prompted to give more information, the DJ stated that the diaper did NOT hold 12-15 pounds of waste, though the box said the diapers were for "12-15 pounds". The customer service rep explained that this was a size indication. The DJ said that he understood and that his baby easily filled the diaper with 12-15 pounds of waste and still they leaked. The CSR got very frustrated and frantic trying to tell this "father" that his baby needed to be changed more often.
Seriously though, if your friend is knowingly re-using the diaper after is has been soiled, then I would consider that unhygenic. The diapers we use swell in the front after Everett goes. Once they feel heavy (like Pam said), then we change him. Poo is different, we change him immediately and he'll let us know if he needs to be changed too!

i change jayson everyone he poops.... however... i dont have time to feel his butt to see if he pees every 15 mins.. i change him when he wakes up.. and before and after every nap... and before bed time... some times he sleeps 2 hrs... im sure he pees more then once in his 2 hour nap... and im sure he pees more then once in the time between the time he wakes up and goes down for his next nap...
When she said she uses a diaper through a few pees I don't think she meant that she opens it, wipes with a wipe, and puts the wet diaper back on. I think she meant that she doesn't check the diaper every 15-20 minutes to see if it's wet. She may just check every so often and change it once it feels heavy. At least I hope that's what she meant... I used to do the same thing when babysitting my nieces and nephews.
I am glad you asked this! I was wondering the other day how often people changed their baby's diapers.
I'm a new mom.... I change Cooper (at minimum) every 2 hours (feeding times). Sometimes it's more....if the diaper is even a little wet I take it off. I even suspect he has gone a little pee-pee I check him. I know I hate sitting in a wet "diaper" (well certain times of the month, ya know?) and I dont want him to sit in one!!
Of course as soon as I hear a poopy (or see the face) I change him.....several times I have jumped the gun and changed a poopy diaper before he's done pooping and end up with a surprise "fountain" of poop (eeeeewwwwwwwwww). I'd rather change him twice than have him sit in it!
I'm sure things will change eventually! Still.... I cannot see reusing diapers. I joke they are so expensive I let him pee in it and then turn it around the other direction and let him use it again....but I am just kidding!
Great question - I love the responses so far!
