Did you lose your PG weight after having baby?
My husband and I have been talking about trying for one more child. I am having some inner conflict with this idea. I really do want another child, but...1) I feel I am just too old and likely will not be able to conceive naturally anyway, and 2) and this is the big one...I am terrified that if I become PG I will get FAT and not lose the weight afterwards. I have not had a drastic weight loss since RNY. I have only lost about 60-62 pounds since surgery, and about 34 prior to surgery giving me a total loss of 96 pounds. I am still 30 if not 40 pounds from "my" goal weight (surgeon says 30). Given I have not even lost a pound in the last 3 months, I am worried that if I become pregnant I will gain weight back and not be able to get it off. Has anyone had this experience? Am I being unrealistic? What are your thoughts?
I had weightloss like you after RNY. I lost like 70 lbs total. I was 20 lbs away from goal when I found out I was pregnant - however, that was when I was 4 months post-op. So, I got pregnant at 150 lbs. I still managed to gain 50 lbs with my pregnancy. I had a 10.5 lb moose though...
Within 2 weeks I lost 42 lbs. I held on to 8 lbs afterwards and 1.5 years later I got pregnant at 160 lbs. I am pregnant with twins and am hoping to not gain 50 lbs this time!! But, I'm already at 20 lbs gained at 22 weeks. So, we shall see.
If you really work hard at it, the weight will come off. Many women here lost even more weight after having their babies. Breastfeeding works wonders too! I would try to get a little closer to goal and then try to conceive. It's hard work but it can be done with determination! I just couldn't kick my bad habits after I had my son...it was my own fault!
Good luck...hope you get some others to respond to you here.

Hi Colleen,
I just had my baby a week ago and in my pregnancy I gained a total of 23 lbs. I am, a week later, within 6 lbs of my pre-pregnancy weight. I think the key for me was maintaining a healthy lifestyle while pregant and not going nuts and indulging what everyone things are typical cravings. It was important for me to really focus on fruites and veggies, cottage cheese and lots of protien rather than allowing myself to indulge in ice cream and other sweets just because I was pregnant. Now, that isn't to say I didn't indulge a little ... but everything in moderation, right? And, I walked four miles at least three-four times a week throughout my pregnancy .. even up to the day before I delivered. I think that helped me, too. But, keep in mind that everyone is different. Some ladies gain lots of weight, and that is theie "normal".
Mostly, I guess what I want to say is not to let the weight issue scare you away from having a baby. It will all work out ... Good luck!

I was 3 years post op and had lost about 120 pounds. My weight had been quite stable for 2 years. I gained 29 pounds (or was it 27, I can't remember for sure!) and I lost all of my pregnancy weight within 2 weeks. I weight about 6 pounds less then I did when I got pregnant and I am just starting to be able to get into my pre-pregnancy clothes now. Some of clothes are still too tight, but I am sure by the time winter rolls around and I have to pull out my pants I will be getting into them without a problem.
Since you already have children, I know I am about to tell you something you already know, but my daughter is worth every pound. She is the love of my life and even if I have to eat nothing but cottage cheese and protein shakes (once I wean her off BFing) to get back into my clothes I will do it happily because having by beautiful baby is worth working my ass off and depriving myself of the instant gratification of eating whatever I want. I never ever in my life had a perfect body and I don't expect to have one now, I am happy with getting into a size 12 instead of the 28s I wore before surgery,it's all a matter of perspective I guess.

Like you, I'm about 40 pounds over my goal weight. I gained a bit over 20 lbs during the pregnancy, and by 2 weeks after delivery I was 5 lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight. It is possible to not gain ALL your weight back while pregnant if you eat sensibly. Now, I have noticed that my "shape" is different! My lower body hasn't caught up with the weight loss, so a lot of my pre-pregnancy pants still don't fit, but I think once I'm back to the gym that will get better.
