Allowed While Breastfeeding?

Hi--

So, I've been pretty vigilant about following doctor's orders/nutritionist's order during pregnancy and have completely avoided the following things:

coldcuts/lunch meat/hot dogs
Anyhing that isn't pasteurized (certain cheeses)
changing the cat's litterbox
etc.

Are things allowed while breastfeeding?

Good question for your doctor.  I know that most of those recomendations are do to exposure to certain diseases that are particularly harmful to fetuses.  I *think* once children are born and have good immune systems, such things are LESS likely or can be deat with more readily.  They may want you to wait a certain amount of time but I don't think you have to avoid them the whole time you breastfeed.

I am not alone, neither are you.

Don't remember them being a problem but I had DH doing the cat litter for the past year.  You know... just in case.  Ha ha!

I heard ironig and washing the floor can also be bad for milk production. I think my husband should be doing these things, too.

this is my 3rd child and I've not avoided any of those BUT unpasturized things.  I do heat up cold cuts from the deli but prepackaged stuff is perfectly fine to eat.

and I change the cats box. as long as the cats aren't outside cats and hand washing happens frequently that isn't an issue either.

so no. those things are fine during breastfeeding.

I ate a well deserved turkey sandwich shortly after I delivered!
I eat and drink (except alcohol) what ever I want at this point.  Even caffeine doesn't bother my baby.  I think some babies are sensitive to caffeine though, so I would be careful with that.  I didn't start my full caffeine coffee in the morning until Anna was 3 months old and I took it slowly and watched to see if there were any differences in her.  There are less restrictions with BFing vs pregnancy, it just depends how comfortable you are with it.  For example: when I go to church, I will take the thimble sized cup of communal wine, my SIL that BFs wont.  I also drink Crystal Light and my SIL wont.
Actually, once a woman starts menstruation as a teenager, I don't think they are supposed to deal with any kind of animal feces...LOL!
