Breast feeding...HELP please!!!!
Are you exclusively pumping or do you breast feed too? I get the impression from your post that you bottle feed your baby expressed breast milk. I hate pumping and only do it if I really need to. I never ever, even now at 6 months, get much when I pump. I pump at work when I don't have my baby at my office with me t breast feed and I only get 2.5 ounces out of both breast.
I am impressed that you get 5 ounces at a pumping, that is really great!
What kind of pump do you have? I hear that makes a big difference...for some people. I have a Medela Pump In Style and I still don't get much. I also tried getting larger flanges, (I think that what they are called, the thing you put your boob in to?) it didn't make a difference as to how much milk I pumped, but it was a hell of a lot more comfortable. If you have a pump that has membranes, make sure the are in tight enough, if everything isn't air tight it can cause your pump to reduce suction.
If you are not pumping enough to exclusively feed your baby BM you can always supplement with formula if you have to, it's not poison and any breast milk your baby gets is good. When I have to use formula, I usually give my DD a bottle with half BM and half formula because I never have enough to do a whole feeding of expressed BM.
I tried the Fenugreek, I didn't feel it made a difference for my supply. It just gave me a stomach ache. I have heard others had very good luck with it.
Good luck!

I was breastfeeding the first 2 weeks.....for the last week {little less then a week} i have been pumping and feeding him from the bottle because he was starting to just want to play at the breast instead of eating. I havent had any issues pumping...AT ALL. It actually is much better for me knowing that i can actually SEE what he is taking in instead of not being able to see it from the breast. Maybe im just becoming paranoid b/c i thought i should be having alittle more milk then i do?? idk. I feel as though if i needed to feed him ALITTLE more then his 5oz that im not going to be able to express it b/c i have no backups....kinda ****y feeling. haha. Maybe its alittle too early like sumone else previously stated.....im just jumping the gun i think? I did however go and buy sum formula {against my better judgement} so just incase i need it...well TY for ur comment.
first things first... why do you think your baby isn't getting enough? are you nursing or just bottle feeding? If you are nursing, stop pumping, unless between feedings, and nurse nurse nurse. It would be best if you just layed in bed with baby topless and just let baby have open access. even if baby just latches on and doesn't nurse, the stimulation will help.
You also have to relax. stress can cause milk to dip. Your supply won't regulate for quite a few weeks now. Also right now your milk supply is hormone regulated not yet supply and demand. so just getting baby on the brest to stimulate would help a lot.
good luck sweetie!

wow....i never thought that by just taking him off the nipple would stop production.....i suppose i can try and have him at the breast next feeding....but yes i was concerned he wasnt getting enough milk because he ALWAYS wanted to be at the breast....plus he hurt alot cuz he has a very strong suck :) lol So as for the last couple days he has been doing well with just the bottle....i pump and then bottle feed him. but i AM going to try to put him on the breast when he wakes up...THANK u so much for the comment!!
He wants to ALWAYS be at the breast because that is how you establish a supply of milk in the early weeks, you will never get as much with the pump as the baby will get, and if it hurts then he is latching wrong. If you continue to pump and bottle feed him your supply will drop drastically, you will never establish a nursing relationship and the whole exercise will be pointless.
