Transition from Infant Tub to Real Tub?

At what age do babies transition from batheing in an infant tub to using a real tub?

I ask since my husband and I are attempting to plan when to *finally* fix our bathtub/shower so it would be acceptable for an infant. Currently there is an off-the-charts hazard due to the tiles falling down off the wall.

Thanks,

We only used the infant tub for like the first 4 months, after that we got some little chairs that suction to the bottom and hook on the side of the tub, so they aren't flopping around in the big tub.  They are still using them, just easier with 2 of them to give them a bath at the same time and they sit more still in those!

I never used a baby bath tub.  Matthew has always been given a bath in the real tub since he was born...other than those first few sponge baths while waiting for the umbilical cord to fall off and circ. to heal.  I use a bath sling that we purchased at babies-r-us and he really loves to take a bath with it.  We tried a baby tub and he cried the whole time.

We did baths in the sink for a long time (just so much easier to control at that height vs slumped over the tub.)  Now that Sammy is 6 months old he LOVES bathing with his brothers and he's good at sitting up (but I still NEVER take my hands off of him....learned that lesson the first time out).  I keep wondering if I should get one of those bath chairs for him but I doubt he'd put up with it for long so for now it's just big tub and aching mama.  If he didn't have brothers, I wouldn't mind continuing to bathe him in the sin****il he showed signs of being uncomfortable there.

I am not alone, neither are you.

I think we used the infant tub until Hannah was 6 months old.  Once she started sitting up on her own we went to the real tub.  I never did use any of the seats or slings.

Hi Paula,

I used a baby bath tub until 4 1/2 months old.  What I did after that was bathe the baby in my sin****il about almost a year and then we got the blow up bathtub for toddlers and I still bathe Gia there.  You put in the bath tub and it is great.  I will probably use it until she is about 2 since she is petite.  It keeps her from sliding and getting hurt in the bathtub.  They also sell the bath seats that you can purchase to keep your baby stable.

Have fun planning and purchasing stuff!!

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Aethyn used his infant tub for about 3/4 months... Once he was sitting on his own...we just sit him in there.  He loves it and loves to splash and make a mess!

Last week when Anna was 6 months old.  I could have switched earlier.  Friends gave us a blow up rubber duck baby bath that you put in the tub and I am using that now.  She is too big for the infant tub and she seems too young for the big tub so the duck tub is working out really well for now.  I think it is a Munchkin product.  She sits up pretty well right now but is not perfect and I would worry about her falling over and conking her head on the tub if she wasn't in the duck.  I always have a hand on there while she is in the tub, but they get slippery and are wiggly at this point!  I have to find one of those suction cup chairs for the tub when the duck gets too small for her.
