A stupid question about exercise and periods

For 20 years I have had periods every 35-40 days. For a few years they were even 45 days but never regularly. One month it would be 35, the next 41, the next 33, you get my point. Since I have started exercising daily they have been getting closer and closer. This last time it was 28 days and let me tell you I am not happy about it at all. This will put me on it for my entire trip in August. Is it possible the exercise is making me more regular? I turned 40 in March, I assumed that as we get closer to menopause they would get further apart. Could it be my age?

Excersise can mess with your cycles, as can weight loss (which you're doing fantastic at by the way!)  I've heard of women getting on the pill for like 3 months at a time and having only 4 periods/year or something like that.  I don't think that would help for your August vacation, but maybe its something you might want to look into if its throwing off your life.  Good luck!

I'm too old for the pill I think the cutoff is 35. It is a great thing though to only get 4 a year. It isn't so much throwing off my life but who wants that many periods LOL. So we exercise to get healthy and are rewarded by more periods? Some things are just not fair.

My periods have always been clockwork so I don't know.   I will say that it's probably a combo of your recent weight loss and the exercise.

Periods just suck.

Thanks Julie. I was really crabby today and now if I tell my husband that I got it, he will act like today was all my fault due to PMS.

I mean really, who brings home over half an ice cream cake after their wife just lost 55 pounds and needs to lose another 55?????? What kind of sick man is he LOLOL. Ok, maybe I am PMSing a bit and overeacting. Still.

Yes, exercise, but most notably, weight loss will make your periods more regular.

It may also be a peri-menopausal thing, too.  I have always been regular and mine are getting closer together.  I used to be every 28 days.  Now it is like every 21-25.  Yikes!
