Afraid of Needles anyone???

Hey guys, I am updating you all on my last visit to the fert. spec.  He is referring me for IVF starting with the next cycle providing I take IVF classes in time  (anybody know what to expect at this class?)  Secondly, he told me what the IVF process was all about.  During IUI I had to get one needle in my stomach each cycle (I had my DH do it, I hate needles, can't look at them being given and almost pass out when blood is being taken - I'm a wimp and i know it)  The lab laughed at me when I told them I was afraid of needles and said, are you sure you're in the fertility program here?  Where was I?  Oh, so explaining it it sounds like a whole lot of needles that I have to give myself and for an extended period which may be up until after implantation.  I am so nervous.  Obviously its not a deal breaker for me, I just hate needles so much that my dr. found ways to increase my diabetes pills nonconventionally so I wouldn't have to take insulin b4 surgery because I cried every time he tried to give me the script for the insulin.  I want the BFP more than anything and I know I'll "man up"  I would have thought these three IUI cycles would have geared me up with all the blood they took.  The fear is still strong, any help out there?

While I'm not really afraid of needles, I have been through IVF twice.   Once to get pregnant with my now 10 and a half month old twins and then I did a frozen cycle for this current pregnancy.

The injection class itself is short.  You will probably watch a few videos and then they will give you some practice needles to play around with during the class.   You will also be able to watch refreshers on how to prep the injection and give the injection,  online at your leisure.  We had the option to take the class with other couples or alone.  We chose with other couples.

Now each med cycle is different for each person so my meds may not be what you will get.  I'm sure it will be close.   I'm not going to lie, there were a lot of injections that I had to take.  I will tell you that they were not that bad.   I opted for the progesterone in oil which goes in the butt.  Your RE will give you the choice of vaginal suppositories or the injections for that.   For me in was a no brainer because it was one daily injection versus 2 daily messy suppositories, but for you the suppositories may be a better option.   I had to remain on the progesterone for 10 weeks.   My butt was very sore by the end, but nothing too terrible.

The HCG is a one time injection that goes in the butt and there was one other one time butt injection, but I cannot remember what med that was.

All other injections went in my stomach.

I'm sure you will do just fine with them.  Good luck

Sheesh I never realized what a person can go through when having to do IVF.  I hope your kids know how  much they are loved and what you did to get them.  They will owe you when you are old and need someone to take care of you

My sister's all say if the kid I have so much as talks back to me they will personally give them a 5 hour seminar on what their mother did to get them and how that will not be tolerated in any way shape or form, they are hilarious!!!

Sorry for taking so long to reply I had to go out of town and just got back.  Thanks for your reply.  I was told about the suppository option for one hormone, but there was still mention of others.  The class sounds very informative, I can't wait.  Maybe sticking an orange won't make me pass out!  I'm going to do my best to get through it.  Thanks again for your support.

Ahh, a kindred spirit.  I wish I could  skip the needles but they are a part of the process.  I'm sure I will think all the shots are worth it after I get my baby...
