Question about HCG levels...especially mama's w/twins
I am currently 5 weeks and 4 days along and had my hcg level checked due to some spotting on and off for 3 days and my level was 15433 and by the looks of the charts the high end for 5 weeks is in the 7000's. They are possibly questioning twins but aren't sure yet and are going to check my hcg levels again tomorrow ( 42 hrs ) to see if it has gone up or doubled. They also did an ultrasound but all that was there was the yolk sac but they said it was still a bit too early and that the baby will appear in days if not by next week.
I am just confused with my level and them saying it is high? Could you tell me what yours was so I can have some kind of comparison. I know everyone is different.
Thanks much and lots of baby dust to all of those ttcers!!

High HCG levels alone don't indicate twins. A high progesterone level *may* indicate a higher likelihood of multiples, but the onle sure indicator is visual confirmation by u/s. My 1st succesful PG was twins. My HCG level was smack dab in the middle of the range.
Congratulations on the pregnancy, Courtney!

At 4.5 weeks I went from 4000 to 8000 in exactly 48 hours...give or take a few hundred. It was high for the gestation period but it just doubled. The nurse was WAY too happy to tell me that they were WONDERFUL numbers! I asked if she was thinking twins and she just laughed and said 'no, you can't tell off numbers, unless you want it to be twins - then I'd say yes!' Sure enough...twins!
Good luck!

I honestly do not know the exact answer to your question. I know high HCG can be an indicator of twins, but I would suppose it is not the tell all. My experience was this....I was 5-6 seeks pregnant and had horrible right sided pain...they did an HCG and my level was around 30,000...so they did an U/S and could not see anything in my uterus. They therefore determined I could have an ectopic...so they took me in for exploratory surgery. There was no ectopic, so they then determined that I must be pregnant with twins. At my 8-9 week U/S/ there were 2 sacs. So YUP it was twins...unfortunately, I lost them at 15 weeks. I still blame the unnecessary exploratory lap for that, but what do you do when they tell you, you could have an ectopic and you could die if it ruptures...you go into surgery like they recommend.
Sooooooooooo that is my story, but like I said...I am honestly unable to answer your question with any definitive answers.
