Heart Shaped Uterus?
Anyone have this or have insight on it? I just got back from my f/u appt to review results of my ultrasound...still have PCOS..lots of cysts as expected...and the u.s tech also noted what appears to be Bicornuate (heart shaped) uterus. She was pretty thorough and actually also does the u.s for my RE who is with the same med group as my ob-gyn so she is pretty knowledgable with PCOS and other fertilit issues. I was told that the heart shaped uterus can lead to a higher risk of miscarriages and also fertility issues. I have never had the miscarriage situation and according to my ob-gyn we know my uterus works because I carried a healthy pregnancy to 37 weeks with a vaginal delivery. She is not about to go cutting and messing with it to cause scar tissue and such but said she would monitor that. She may do another u/s as well because you would think with all the u/s I have had it would have been noted and never has. I am moving on to adding metformin to the provera, avandia is no longer available, and will be on that for 3 mths to help induce ovulation and hopefully help clear some of the cysts by simulating ovulation and getting a clean slate. My cycle i**** or miss with or w/o avandia and could not tell you my ovulation days...I do know it is probably not the normal range and day 21 progesterone checks have proven that. If after 3 mths still nothing we will move on to the Femara. Emad turns 2 in October but for now I have given up hopes on a Spring baby (was shooting for Apr/May) but guess it is not in the cards. Ramadan starts at the end of August which means 30 days of fasting to the Metformin I may or may not do, depending on how it affects my sugars. It should also help with the 5 lbs I put on since starting the provera...funny how I was pushing 300 lbs and gained with no issues and now 5 lbs I feel like it was 50!
Anyhow, guess we just keep trying....I knew it was gonna be another rough road....but guess the end result is the most imporant thing...I just hope it is sooner than later..I hate BFN!

I hated seeing those cysts. Ugh it's just frustrating. I really believe the prometrium everyday for four months just prior to my RNY is one of the reasons I became super fertile right after.
Ramadan would be a tough time to start metformin. Can you eat after sundown? Forgive my ignorance, if I am incorrect. Maybe you can take it at bedtime instead of the morning.
I don't know much about the heart shaped uterus thing. Mine is VERY tilted. I think you'd be oksy though because you already carried Emad. BFNs stink!
Hugs,
Angie

I did ask about the Prometrium but docs want to continue with the Provera instead of switching the meds now to see a trend of sorts....
I can at before sundown and after but no food or water in between and being that is is summer it will be a loooong day...last year was a bit better. I am to take it twice a day at 500mg a dose I believe so will do in the a.m and again in the p.m but if can't tolerate it will have to skip the month and start the next.

Samara,
I don't know anything about the heart shaped uterus but I wanted to say it is great that you have a physician who is being so thorough. I hope that you have a great plan of action to get the ball rolling again.
Remember, you got pregnant and carried little Emad so you can do it again! I understand BFN and the stuggles!
Thinking of you!

It seems strange that they'd just now be finding out about the heart shaped uterus...but since that wasn't your impedement to getting pg w/Emad...I wouldn't worry too much about it
Hopefully your latest drug regimine kicks in and you get a BFP soon!
I've been thinking that during Ramadan...since I have such a hard time getting in enough protein and water as it is during Ramadan...I may try to do most of the month on protein drinks...fast, easy to get the protein in...then I can get my water in and still get some sleep.

Samara,
I have PCOS and a heart shaped uterus that they call a partial bicornuate uterus. What that means is I have a small septum that comes partially down my uterus. In that area, there is not a lot of blood flow. I had a D&C in 2005 and saw it. Basically my doctor said that if I implant in that area, the chances of miscarriage are higher. I was also at a greater risk for preterm labor and had my son at 38 weeks. Some people have a complete bicornuate uterus which means the septum comes all the way down forming two uterus'. I would think that after all of your ultrasounds they would know if that is what you have. I had many ultrasounds before they discovered my partial. I hope this helps.
