Question for moms of boys....

This morning I was changing Cooper's diaper and noticed a white ring around his penis.... when I looked closer I noticed that if I pulled back the skin forcing the (?  I don't even know the terms) shaft out there was a lot of white fuzzies (probably cotton fuzz from diapers).

He is cir****ized and it's healed wonderfully.... but I don't normally clean his penis (besides surface swabbing).  Should I be pulling the skin back and cleaning it?  How often?  Just using wipes okay?  Anything else I should be doing??

I feel like a bad mom that all that fuzzy stuff built up like that!  (and it's not visible unless you pull back the skin)

Thanks!

Cindy

Although he didn't cry when I was cleaning him I don't think he really enjoyed it either....  This is his thoughts on penis cleaning:

What  a cutie pie!  I love the picture!  I'd check his penis every few diaper changes for a while, but then every 2 days should probably should be enough.  Those newborn diapers sometimes have a bit of "stuff" on them for some reason.  When the boys were newborns they'd get these soft crystaline balls like little beads sometimes.  Everyone told me it was hormones, but it was WEIRD.  They'd be all in the diaper but sometimes I'd find a stray tucked in where you mentioned.  Good luck, you did good Mommy!

Thanks, Donna!

I had those crystaline balls too.... I googled it and found out they are the material the diaper companies use to make the diapers absorbant and if the baby wets too much they can come out.... freaked me out!

I appreciate your help!

Wow, weird!  I had my lactation consultant and my pediatrician say they were a result of hormones.  Either way though, they're harmless, if not messy...lol

I had to do that with my guy.   Actually he is 2 1/2 and I still have to do it!!!
For awhile , when he was little my doctor had me pulling the skin back and then putting lubricant on it so it wouldn't stick.  I guess some of the skin can "stick" and if you don't keep pulling it back it will get stuck and grow over.
I would keep pulling it back and then when he has his next check up talk to the doctor about it.

Ugh.... still having to do it at 2 1/2???  I have to ask my husband if that's part of his cleaning routine as an adult..... I'd imagine as I teach him to wash himself that would have to be included.

I appreciate your input!

Yep, normal.  I found it the same way you did.  Don't feel bad...we don't have penises - how would we know to look for it!  LOL.  My son used to giggle like crazy when I'd clean it...now, well he hates it but it's gotta be done.  And those crystaline balls that was mentioned earlier - yep, we got those too once in a while.  WIERD!

My 6 month old  gets a white creamy haze, but I do a good cleaning (with water only) in the bath nightly.  I wouldn't pull it back and mess with it more than once a day.  Actually mine has a tiny little "pocket" that really gets some in there good and I may have to work at it gently sometimes to get it 100% clean.

I am not alone, neither are you.

I am adding penis cleaning to our  bath time routine!  Thank goodness I have yet to find a pocket.... (Had an ex-boyfriend that had one though, so I know what you're talking about!)

Thank you!!
