Yes, morbid obesity and super morbid obesity are considered life illness that lead to early death by most adoption agencies. They've even denied couples because the father is MO or SMO.
My father passed away when I was six weeks old(not from MO) It made things very tough on us and our mother. I understand why there are guidelines. While I do not agree with "fat haters", obesity needs to be looked at as a health condition that could cause a child to lose a parent...even if, until the day they die, they're the best parent in the world.
Sad.

Before my weightloss I would have been livid at this article. But after experiancing how much I couldn't do that I didn't even know I couldn't do and the amazing improvement in both health and quality of life I have to agree. And this means that there is standing for obesity AS a medical condition and not a lack of self control and will power and utter laziness so many people make it out to be.
YEP! My oldest is adopted from Korea. I was really worried they wouldn't let me adopt especially once my family practitioner wrote down in my adoption forms that my life expectancy was only to 60 years old due to my MO and diabetes. The adoption agency freaked out. They want to know that you will be around for your child in the many years to come and not leave them parent-less yet again because of your "manageable" health issues. I mean, my fat wasn't letting me get pregnant, why would I think it would let me adopt! LOL.
As scared as I was back then, and how much I hated it, I understand it now. I had my surgery when he was 18 months old and am SO glad I did because I was FAILING as a parent to do the things with him that he deserved. I couldn't keep up, I was so tired, and setting a BAD example for him. Now, I get to spend MANY more years than I KNOW I had before with him! :-)
