Life Insurance Approved!
Hi Ladies--
I posted several months ago about how my husband and I were taking out life insurance policies given that we are now starting a family. Although my husband has a decent policy through his employer, we wanted something even more decent to protect our family in the event of a parental death.
At the time I was about 10 weeks pregnant and I was all pissy because I had to "make weight" or I'd be in a higher-risk category and have to pay a higher premium for the life of the policy. No consideration was given to the fact that I was pregnant. Anyhow, I made weight (by 2 lbs.) and was eligible for a standard policy, not high-risk. However, after reviewing my medical history, I was put in a high-risk class because of the gastric bypass, etc. I guess I feel lucky to be insured at all since many of this board have mentioned they are unable to be insured at all because of their weight loss surgery history. It's amazing (and not in a good way) to think this process --from application to approval-- took nearly 4 months for the insurance company to process.
I feel relieved, yet somewhat deflated too. Here I've taken steps to make myself healthier and this company had put me in a high-risk class. For crying out loud, my surgery was nearly 10 years ago...and I'm still a much healthier version of my previous self.
