how long ?
Hi! Quick question. I went off birthcontrol about 3 months ago, but I don't want to start trying until end of august, so we can have a summer baby. From the time that you started trying to concieve to the time you did concieve how long did it take and did you use tools to see when you were ovulating or did you leave up to pure luck?
Any info would be great.

Well, I think you're going to get a wide range of answers on this as every body is different. The average time it takes a couple to conceive is about 8 months, some longer. This is considered "normal". There are a wide variety of means for tracking your cycles...OPK's, natural family planning (formerly the rhythm method), basal body temps & charting (fertility friend). I guess it all depends on how clinical you want to get and how long you've been TTC.
In my case, I was very much a planner and invested in OPK's the first cycle. After a year with no results, I sought out an RE and turned to medical intervention. It took 3 years to conceive each of my pre-op children. Please Note, I was also obese and had PCOS with annovulation, poor follicle development, as well as retention issues due to insulin resistance. My post-op baby was a surprise despite using BC (be sure to use 2 forms, 1 of which is condoms if you aren't ready to conceive yet). Post-op TTC can often yield much better results as fertility for some is improved.
There is a separate thread here that Shari posts every week, specifically for those TTC. It's a great source of advice, experience and support.
Good luck!

Like PP mentioned - all are different.
My first TTC after 22 years - happened 10 months post op. I went off Nuvaring on Oct 1, 2006 and my LMP was 10/23/06 - I got PG on 11/6/06 using OPK to detect my surge. So that was in my first month of trying. Our second pregnancy took me 8 months to conceive this time. Possible problems - I stopped breastfeeding 2 months before I got PG...I developed post-partum hypothyroidism 4 months after giving birth and it took them 15 months to get my levels to "normal" and then I got PG. We are due 11/21/2009.

1.5 months with my son (went off bc mid month)
2 weeks with my miscarriage (had IUD out and ovulated 2 weeks later)
2 weeks after my miscarriage I ovulated again and became pregnant with Kaida.
had RNY
this one, I messed up with my patches (was late changing it out) and we didn't use a back up method.
